Depends how much power you're going for but for me 260rwkw. 650cc aren't big enough according to my tuner. He said I'D1000 will get some head room.

The soarer is only making 215rwkw only looking around the 230rwkw mark. Judging by that it's won't reach it on E85. I guess I'll stick to pulp.

Which are the best bang for buck ECUs to run flex e85 on 1jzs?

Scott your tuner is trying to sell you I have 800cc injectors on my 1J and at 250rwkw with e85 my injectors are only at 40% duty cycle...

That said, ID1000's are a very good injector and are an improvement in every way over older style 90s injectors of any type. I have Sard 800s and they don't perform very well at idle. FYI sard are the same design as many other Denso injectors from the same era.

I recommend the megasquirt ECU... more features and capability than the competition for about 1/3 the price. My setup cost me about $800 total including the ECU (MS3), loom and all the other little bits that you inevitably need.

Wow that's cheap mate. Did you hook it all up yourself? How long did that take?

I did it myself but any competent electrician can do it fairly quickly, nothing is particularly difficult. I did it over about a week of occasional work... I estimate it's about 6-10hrs if you're slow or 3-4hrs for a proficient sparky.

Nice mate, you've got me very tempted. I noticed you are running flex, i definitely want to go flex, what else would i require to do that, just the sensor?

Yeah just a sensor and a compatible ECU... most vendors selling the sensor will have all the info you need.

The megasquirt can run flex right? And is it compatible with the auto gearbox?

Not sure about soarer... they do sell some fancy "auto gearbox controller" thingo but I'm not certain of details.

Unless you want to be messing around and getting super technical you might have to look into one of the established ECU replacements for the Soarer... off the top of my head I cannot remember who made one... maybe AEM or something like that.
