Well, after 9 years with my current Soarer and 13 years of Soarer ownership, I'm finally moving on.

Mike Beck has bought my Soarer, so it's gone to a better place (or at least a place where it won't get toddlers sticking fingers all over it every day)

I've bought a red 2009 Falcon G6E Turbo (82,000km on the clock, previous owner was a doctor who has looked after it very well, so hoping it'll last at least half as well as the Soarer did!)

I'll still check in here from time to time no doubt, but wanted to thank the community for all the help and entertaining discussions over the years.

Cheers!

Anyone say "ECU reflash and 350rwkW on stock turbo"??? :-)
Apparently there is a little mesh bit in the oil feed to the falcon turbos, that can get blocked up over time(will take much longer in a well serviced car). They may have addressed the issue in the later models like yours, just thought i'd give you a heads up if you haven't heard of it.
All the best Matthew, with your near 7000 posts, you have been a valuable helper/suggestion giver on the forum. you will be welcome anytime.

FG is a Great car.

Won't make 350rwkw on the stock turbo but will make around 300rwkw with Tune and Injector upgrade.

To add to the list Blake of things prone to fail

- Torque Converter Flex plate
- Transmission heat exchanger
- Intercooler Pipes
- Oil Pump

Once you take care of these 4 things it is a reliable car that can handle the power.

With regards to all those falcons(BA and later), it is important to disconnect the trans cooler lines that run through the radiator, as the radiator can develop a leak, swapping water into the trans fluid, causing expensive damage.( $3000 for my sisters XR6!) Just run an aftermarket trans cooler instead.

As for the 350rwkW on the stock turbo, I probably have indeed mislead you, as the cars that HAVE done this are on E85.
Good info there Boris. Are there uprated/aftermarket parts to replace the oil pump and flex plate?

Most of those trans/radiator problems are with the ZF cars, which yours is.
Trans imput shafts have a habit of snapping as well.
Enjoy the Falcon, great power potential thats for sure.

Flex plate comes loose with hard revving because of the bolts, add strong locktite compound on the bolts as well as spring washers to stop it happening.

If it already comes loose the bolt holes will elongate, I'm unsure how reliable it is to re-use the original flexplate once it happens.

There are aftermarket flex plates but the fault is the bolts becoming loose so the factory one is fine to use.

There are replacement oil pump gears and new aftermarket oil pumps, original ones tend to break mainly when engines are revved hard and can destroy the engine

Heh!

Well, now I feel the need to return having been given the opportunity to look after Matt's old Soarer.

I can't believe its been 4.5 years since I've had one! Such a funny trip down memory lane :-)

Thanks again Matt, hope the G6E serves the family as well as the Soarer did!

Thanks for all the kind words, and the visions of breakdown horrors to come! Here is the new beast, just got it home today - 130km trip from the dealer to home was very nice.

Well I had a chat to the local Ford dealership service head - he said the heat exchanger is a big issue for the 5 speed box, but he's not had a 6 speed FG in yet with a split exchanger & whilst functionally the same, it's a totally different design to the 5 speed.

I think I'll probably plumb in a dedicated cooler before I hit 100,000 anyway just to be sure as I can think of better things to do with $3000.

He said given the cars service history, KM and that it's not been messed with in any way I shouldn't be too concerned about anything at the moment, the biggest problem to look out for is the diff bushes, which get chewed out pretty regularly, depending how vigorously you drive, but aren't expensive to replace.

I honestly don't think it needs any more power for me - it's brutal and effortless, and lets face it, I'm a middle aged family man!

Sounds intriguing Matt. I don't think you could have got a more powerful, newer car for that price. Just keep on top of those possible gremlins and you'll have many happy years of motoring ahead.

Meanwhile I'm just loving the Soarer. Forgot what I was missing out on.

So much so I'm selling up the BMW as parts, the Soarer just shows what an underdeveloped car it is!

My new goal is to free up some time and space (cash too) for another project, I'll probably keep your JZZ31 as is, but get another later model JZZ31 in good nick, and spruce it up with a Limited interior set (prob import a low km limited for cheap) and change the 2JZ-GE for a 1GZ-FE + R154. :-)

I need such project to get me out of bed!

Wow, that's big news! Yes I always liked the facelifted models too, but at the time I got mine they were still at the $15,000+ price bracket for a '97.
The 1GZ-FE sounds like it'd be a hell of a project - certainly keep you busy with fabricating & electronics! 3UZ-FE too easy?

I know right, I've seen the light again I suppose. The Soarer actually feels more like a 5 series, far superior to that of the 3 series E36, a bit of a weedy car, but I did have fund with it.

Being doing research and the 1GZ-FE while possible is not really worth it. So the alternative is a small twin turbo setup on my current 1UZ-FE which could easily enough slip into a late model Soarer.

I shall indeed Dave, already restored the headlights, repaired the door card cracks, cleaned out the dusty digital dash, replaced the electric fan for a clutch fan, upgraded the rear muffler assembly, sent the rear spoiler off for painting and organised for it to get a full professional polish and wax. :-)

Why are you parting with your Soarer Dave?

Mike, I'm getting too old and knackered to squeeze into these low slung seats also retiring the end of the year. Wife and I will only need the one car to see out our remaining years together.
I will say my Soarer has been the best car I've ever had and quite possibly the best car ever built for what you get and the overall things it's capable of doing.
Sad day when it goes.

Ah yes I can appreciate that Dave. They aren't the most practical cars to get in and out of, I'm a mere 24 years of age yet on some slopes those heavy doors and it's fairly low slung height makes it difficult to get out of, while trying not to damage the door cards etc.

What is your deactivated UZZ32 like? I could always be interested if you're looking to part with it down the line. Any pictures?

I'll be coming up to Auckland 27/28/29 staying at Citylife but not sure where I'll be at any particular time. Condition is average I presume but everything works and I've got full service history from when I got it in 2002 and Toyota here in Hamilton will have history since '99 when imported. Would suit someone who has time and skill to work on.

The Ford doesn't have the "uniqueness" of the Soarer, in that you see dozens of FG Falcons on the road every day (often with Taxi signs on them ) - but I'm loving driving it so far - aside from the insane torque, it handles surprisingly well for a big heavy sedan too. Now it would be nice to have some dry weather so I could turn the traction control off for a bit.

The red was just a coincidence - I was actually keen on a blue one in Auckland, which also had the optional 19" wheels, but it had more KM's on it and had spent most of its life in Auckland traffic.

That sounds like it's likely to be a less stressful project with probably a more satisfying end result. I've seen a couple of twin turbo 1UZ's over the years so at least you aren't going totally into the unknown.

Did you end up using the old coupling for the fan? Curious as to if it was still OK after sitting up in the top of the garage for the last 5 years.

Ha, glad you agree. I would take what I have learned form the E36 project and apply similar things, aim will to give it a stock look, think of it as a 1UZ-FTE ;)

Not sure it will be without stress, but I have a good concept of how it can be done. Parts hunting at the moment.

Fan actually came with one so just used that, though I'm sure your old one is still okay.
