the nitrogen accumulator in TRC cars has pressure in it to maintain brake fluid pressure.

Thinking out side the square, how would it work if instead of nitrogen being compressed to keep the pressure up, this was used

http://www.centuryspring.com/pdfs/357-368URETHANE.pdf

when the pump activates, the "spring" would be compressed, and maintain pressure.

I put a valve on a unit and rebuilt it for my son's car, but would this be an easier solution?

any thoughts?

there is no reason you can't use it,

just make sure it can cope with the temps in the engine bay.

the other problem you'll face is adapting it to either the current unit or designing a whole new design to house the "spring". you could probably just chuck one behind the current piston. also calculating the size take a bit of time.

This:

Century Spring’s urethane spring material is a polyether-elastomer that reacts similarly to an incompressible fluid.
The volume of material moved by compression is displaced laterally in the form of bulging sides.

It doesn't squash like a spring, just changes shape. No good being squashed inside a container as it hasn't got anywhere to go.

You are certainly thinking outside the square, but I definitely have to agree with Peter on this one & also how are you going to get it in the housing ??

I have never seen one of these housings / units how are they assembled are they clamped together or welded up ?? & also what stroke range does the diaphragm with the Nitrogen have now & what pressure is applied to the diaphragm by the Nitrogen, this could be worked out fairly easily though & out of curiousity what pressure is the nitrogen held at as I think it would be a big ask for the rubber to do the same thing, as I would doubt the rubber could apply the same load / pressure & if for arguments sake you could get the rubber inside the unit it would not act on the whole diaphragm area & so could tear through the diaphragm over a period of time & you would have some massive issues then & also I think you would never get a RWC with the above mod's, if it did even fit in / work ..

i do not have a TRC car. it is just a thought for people who do. The accumulator screws apart and the "spring compound" would be inserted between the top and the moving piston. The diameter of the material would be selected to fit inside the accumulator and have room for expansion as it is compressed.

Read the specs for the "spring" material and i think it can handle the load. I do not need it for myself, just putting the thought out there for maybe somebody to try.

i have a spare accumulator, but no soarer other wise i would try this

also for those wondering as shown in daves pics, the two halves of the accumulator are screwed together but then secured with a rolled lip which has to lathed off
