just wondering if anyone has had to replace a front seatbelt before. mine is stuck in an almost fully extended position, has been like this for a few days now and i wont drive it without a seatbelt that retracts. i was told by my mechanic that to replace it would be expensive as it would have to come from toyota as you need to replace the trim where the seatbelt feeds down into the pillar. surely this cant be right, aren't the seatbelts changed during compliance, and doesn't this mean I could just replace the seatbelt with something off the shelf? surely you wouldn't need to replace the trim/surround on the pillar just for a seatbelt. any past experience or advice would be greatly appreciated

Not sure about the seatbelts off the shelf, sorry. Though I can't imagine they'd be too rare from wreckers. I can get plenty from a place here in Canberra if you get stuck. I won't know a price till Monday though as they've closed up early for a long weekend. I've heard mentioned before that some Soarer's driver seatbelt won't work unless your foot's on the brake, if it's a hydraullic belt? If that does occur, maybe it's a brake signal error, or something??? Really, I wouldn't know

thanks sam, the wreckers over here wanted $250 for one, would prefer a new one if i'm paying that much and apparently that one wasn't from a spruce interior either (if indeed I even need to worry about the insert)...its just jammed, was beginning to recoil very slowly and then one day it just packed up all together

If yours is that grey/green interior there's one here for $150. Just ring Angelo or John (Trojan Motorsports) on 02 62426277 and tell them you were talking to me.

No idea what its like in Aussie, but my first Soarer had to get a replacement drivers belt because the factory one was frayed - I just called up a mobile service, and they came and replaced it with an Aussie manufactured belt (webbing grabber type) for $220 NZ installation included - I watched him install it and he was very careful and did a great job.
