Standard Qld plates have to be bent at the edges to fit - doesn't look good. I changed mine and fitted a block of wood (painted the colour of the car) behind the plate as a spacer - about 1/2 cm was all that was needed - with longer bolts it fits perfectly and looks much neater.

Any idea why the polyplates are so expensive?
Must we use a State issued plate? Can we use one that has been custom made to fit the space exactly? I am going down to Singapore on Sunday and the sign makers there can so it to any size, shape, style or what ever! Thinking of getting one made to say the same thing, but in the right size.

Hi. Last w/e I fitted number plate covers to my slim line plates. When I took the plates off, I found they have been trimmed slightly in length. To get the plate cover to fit in, I ground the ends of the perspex cover very slightly with an angle grinder, put a backing plate in to cover the empty space behind a slimline plate, and spaced the covers out from the mounting points with a couple of washers. Looks good now.

I got longer alen key bolts and a piece of thin steel tube, I cut it square and put it between the plate and bolting plate. I also have a number plate cover on but its a large plate i also had to file down two of the corners but it does look good. Well much better than the bent plate that was on it before .

Just thought I'd let everyone know that NSW now have US/"international"-sized plates (12"x6", slightly smaller than JDM) that fit the rear cutout without bending at all. A little bit of a gap around the edges where you can see the cutout, but nothing some spacers and a backing plate can't fix
