I have been running around getting my car ready for the pits inspection and I noticed today that when I parked the car and got out, I could hear a constant ticking sound every 1/2 a sec or so. I think it was from the exhaust is this normal? How would I know if the CATs required attention?

Perhaps you are all having the same catastrophically bad problems with your exhaust, and as a result assuming its normal? ;)

Cheers folks. Thought that was the case, but read on the forums about CATs catching fire etc, so I I thought it would be worth the post.

Okay, I feel better, but just so I am aware, what are the tell tale signs that a CAT is going?

Mine doesnt do it, mild steel off the stock dumps. Parents falcon sounds like our lawn as the sun goes down after a summer day. I think its the exhaust sheilding rubbing against the piping as they both contract (different rates) so creeking occurs.

Generally, they rattle. They can melt and clog up your exhaust system. Just get under the car and thump or kick it and see if it makes a noise or rattle. Here is some interesting info.... http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question482.htm
