That may very well be me at this point in time. As you're mostly all aware, My diff has been on the blink lately, and after the big bang that happened on the way to work the other week, we all thought it was completely cactus. Boss wanted the car out of the carpark friday, so I decided to take my chances driving it back home. It sounded a bit different, I put this down to the diff growling, but I didn't get the clunking around corners. I started it up this morning and it still sounded odd, upon closer inspection the bang was obviously due to the intercooler piping blowing off one on the joiners as a result of a faulty clamp, hence the different engine note, the turbos were venting off to the air the whole way home!!! Apart from having no filtered air on the return journey, could anything else have been damaged? Overspooled the hairdryers maybe?

Not to sure yet, been to pre-occupied with the clipsal and bf2 to think about the car too much! Even if it isn't, I'll still do it as it is definately on the blink.

You wont do any damage to your turbos with the intercooler pipe popped off.
The only thing, the turbos would sound noisy, you'd be sucking in unfiltered air which isn't entirely safe as you could suck in a leaf, or some dust ect which could get into your engine.
However, if you just cruised home, I'm sure everything will be sweet.
In future, maybe you should keep a few screwdrivers / socket set in your boot so that if this happens again, you can fix it on the spot.

Morgan, I took it REAL easy as I thought I had a toasted diff. My tool kits permanent home is in my boot so i had them with me the whole time! Only thing is that I didn't know what it was until I stated to poke around under the bonnet the next morning. Anyway, all fixed now. Will go for a cruise later this morning to test it out. It wasn't so much that the turbos sounded noisy, but more the exhaust had a substantially different note. And I was getting overtaken by datos going UP Flagstaff Hill rd. For you non Adelaidians, that's a road wich is nearly 3.5km long with an average gradient of about 20 degrees! So no I can drive to work again instead of tackling that on my bike, I'm happy

Need to re-design my fmic pipework anyway. What I have at the moment was a fair rushed job, I just needed to get the car mobil again th the time. I think that i can shave at least 250mm off what I have now, must be good for responce. Once it is done (I'm getting it done in mild steel) I'll get them ceramic coated. Team that up with some new silicone joiners and some t-bolt clamps, and it'l be indestructible(ish).
