Driving from Melbourne to Gold Coast, I took this picture somewhere between Albury and Sydney on the 13th of March. I thought wow! broken down Toyota, that's different
then as I proceeded to overtake it........look it has a twin sister, and it's white too

I was going to take another picture as I was next to him and give him a friendly wave, but I was in a red dunnydore, it would look odd . so who was it?

We went to Gold Coast for 2 weeks. Traveling from Melbourne 2 adults + 2 kids (11 & 9) with all the luggage would not fit in a soarer. Dunnydore is a company car (SC VY) so no petrol costs for nearly 4000 km. Kids were amused in the back seat with the laptop watching DVDs or playing games. It was a great trip. In Sydney streets and signs are pathetic. I got booked for doing a U turn at the traffic light somewhere in Manly, (I was lost 10pm at night) After telling the copper it was my first time driving in Sydney he felt bad about the fine and offered to take us back to Potts Point where our hotel was. I followed him from Manly all the way back. After nearly running amber/red light to keep up with his SS, he only waved and smiled. When we got there, he apologised a couple more times and said that he hates Sydney and prefers Melbourne. So that was my Sydney experience. At least in Melbourne if U turn is not permitted you will have a sign to tell you that. How the hell was I to know Just one more thing, Pacific Hwy between Newcastle and Tweed Heads in the worst piece of sh!t I have ever been on.

Newell used to be the way to drive between Qld and ACT, but there were no speed limits then, and nostalgia ain't what it used to be.
Back then, on that road, I first drove a car over a decent distance at 160km/h and the car would do only 183 flat out. An Alfa, as Ollie has previously perceptively observed.
Driving my Soarer today I considered that it would blow the doors off most of the cars after which I lusted back then (and certainly all that I drove) and do so in far greater comfort and safety.

And it is not just the surface quality or design but the never ending variation of speed limits. They constantly change from 100 down to 40 and anything in between. Throw in several speed cams too and this makes a trip very very frustrating. Some people in Sydney said that the only good thing to come out of Melbourne is Hume Hwy. hehehe at least we got one decent roadway out.

Sorry Neil but the best way through sydney now from Bris is straight down the pacific Hwy (M1) onto the new part of the M7 which bypass sydney all together. there is NO other shorter way trust me I've tried them all.Yes it has toll ways but who fuccken cares,it's worth it.
