Well, personally I prefer Aucklands 3 months of high humidity to Perth's seemingly never ending 40 degree heat...

Come on mate, watch the news a bit more often. I have been here for 3 years now and every summer there were 10 40 degree days tops... Other days its between 30 and 35. you can go to the beach 9 months in a year. And Perth does have trees and parks bigger than Domain park. I like both cities but i prefer Perths climate

I hear that Perth is GOOD, but I wouldn't wanna come back in the next life as an obese Moggy living in a NON-airconditioned WA house.

90% of the houses here are airconditioned. Only if you find a really old one there is a chance that it will not have an aircon. its a nice place to live, come and visit and we'll have a cruise dedicated to you and some drinks afterwards

I may just do that. Some Kiwi friends of ours have settled in Perth, and have bought a rather nice house and land package (Don't know where exactly), and should be moving in around September (I think!).
It's a good thing they bought the land when they did, coz it's already valued at $15k more than they paid for it..........NOICE!.

Crikey- Auckland's humid? Try Norfolk Island! We don't have aircon, either. No-one has (other than special permission type people).

I've been all over Australia (originally from Sydney) and seriously prefer New Zealand! Perth's climate would be the pits for me, long hot dry summers, and the soil there is awful too (especially combined with long hot summers) for gardening. I was there in winter and that was dreary.

Gippsland or Tassie would be the pick for us now, maybe Mount Gambier. Everywhere else is too hot. We had two years in Weipa 2002-2004 and that's enough stinking heat for a lifetime.

My next posting might be Exmouth- while it's rather hot, it's not as bad as other possible places I could be sent to. So next year - WA here we come:-)

Yeah Perth is going full on crazy with its land prices. I own a block in Canning Vale for almost 3 years now (haven't done anything with it yet) and it almost tripled since I bought it. Speaking to any real estate agents in the area, a lot of them reckon an average 600m Canning Vale block that now is worth 250K, will be worth half a mil in couple of years time for sure. Judging by the track record of how things are going here I am not surprised if it really does happen. Unlike the eastern states, perth property has only ever gone down twice in the past 30 years, the 70s oil crisis, and 91 recession, otherwise growth is always positive. I just pity those new home buyers who will start looking in the next 5 years or so... future generation of renters for sure :-(

The price rise is not gonna last very long. A block in Canning Vale worth half a mill in a few years?? No way. Whats gonna happen to Scarborough, City beach, Cottesloe and all those elite areas? $10 mill for a house?? I think it has to stop

It won't Nikola. I had a bet with a friend of mine 3 years ago, when I bought my block for around 80K back then, I told him it will be worth a quarter of a million in a couple of years time. He said the same thing as you, "no way, who's gonna pay a quarter of a million for a block in Canning Vale!" Well, 3 years later, valuation 260K! I won 5 cartons of Heineken off him 2 weeks ago by the way booyaa!!!!! I now wanted to bet with him for half a mil in the next 3 years, understandibly he refused

Seriously, the Oz dream of owning your own home will soon just be that, a dream for a lot of people. Houses in Cott and City Beach are already hitting $6M mark. In 5 or 10 years time there sure as hell will be lots of renters out there. I say buy sh|tloads of rental propeties now, you'll make a fortune by the time yiou retire. If you read the sat paper 2 weeks ago, there was an interesting article, where it said even a house in Balga (povo Perth suburb) will be worth a million in 15 years or so. Oh well, talk about off-topic
