there are not much straight roads in NZ but a road called Desert Road is awesome and on the way to Tauranga or Hastings (can't remember anymore) there is a nice straight downhill road where my supra (1G-EU) was on the limiter (180km/h) in 4th gear!!! That car was amazing.
Windy roads in NZ makes the travel fun. Here i drove to Coral Bay from Perth and i almost fell asleep. Cruse control and nothing around you (not even one corner) for 11 hours. I forgot where i was going and why. NZ is THE BEST country for holidays. Just get a car in AKL and drive around.

Dont know when you were here Nick, but now days you play Count the Cops crossing the Desert Road. My last trip south we got to 8 marked cars - so who knows how many unmarked. All writing tickets. I have driven down there in the early hours of the morning in my UZZ30 on the limiter though - but that was over 4 years ago. The scenery is what makes it so special. State Highway 2 to Thames used to be a good, straight road, but again too well patroled now - as well as SH 27 to Tauranga and SH1 to Whangarae - all ruined by cops and unmakred cameras. The back road from Tokoroa to Turangi is still a good road for fun, but even that gets the hidden camera treatment on occasion (and it doesnt have a lot of straight - still I've done it at an average of 140 and bouncing off the limiter quite a lot - again many years ago...)

We used to stop on desert road when we were lil so my sis and I could piff snowballs at each other haha. If you want straight roads then go to ruawai. Flat and straight as hell for km's on end. But then is not a damn thing else to do while there.

i had no idea they are so strict now. I left AKL 3 years ago and i was on Desert road at least 5 years ago. So i have no idea what's happening now. They were getting strict when i was there as well. I was coming from Albany down to Takapuna on the Motorway doing 172km/h in the middle of the day (my ex's fault). Cops caught me on 146 (lucky) and i ended up with a fine of 650 NZD and 50 points added to my licence (equivalent to 6 points taken away if you have a AUS licence). I still have both licences just in case i loose the AUS one

Ex's get blamed for all sorts of things. Some straight roads between Bulls and Levin otherwise plenty in the SI. Could try 90 mile beach road, straight as, gets relaid twice a day as well. Cops everywhere now though.

Dave r u talking about driving on the actual 90 mile beach?? Have done that once. I was young and wasn't thinking. I'd never do it now unless im in a 4WD

I've only been on it in a coach. It is a State highway though so it's open to all and the cops do patrol it but plenty of cars have come a cropper so I wouldn't drive the Soarer on it, too much sand and salt for my taste. It's not 90 miles though, more like 90kms.
