Does anyone have any soarer vs skyline stories? I gave a mate abit of a race out the road, stop/start race, and I had it all over his r32 skyline. We were both running stock boost and minimal to no mods on both cars and both were manuals but I still had it all over his skyline and overtook him completely by about 80 km\h.
Skyline's seem overrated a fair bit and are way too common now to be worth getting, anyone else agree?
Yeah, I've raced a stock GTS-T a couple of times, none of them kept up with my stock TT. They are good to modify though and there's quite a few here in WA... But yeah, way too many of them on the road, you're no longer 'unique' when you're driving one.

I had a legal race with a R34 GT-T skyline at WSID a month or so ago. He beat me off the line due to my standard stall convertor fitted with a big single turbo, but once I got going, caught up and passed it before the finish line.
He came up to me afterwards and said, is that your soarer, cause I thought I had that race won before you stormed past me just before the finish line.
1jz-gte is a far better engine that rb25det. Try to make 300rwkw on an unopened rb25det, it just doesn't happen.

Skylines are lighter than Soarers by far.
Not by much Callum, they have a 100 kilo or so advantage. My TT pov pack (lightest Soarer at 1450 kg) is quite close weight wise to a GTS-T. GTS-T weighs around 1370 kilos. And I think 1J has more power too, so they pretty much have same power/weight ratio. I dunno, I did beat them anyway, maybe they're crap drivers or something. Of course, a modified one will kick my stock ass though.

Was at mates 21st a few years back. Had this guy there talking up skylines to the max and slagging off toyotas. With much restrain, I didn't say anything (or clobber him) as it was out of respect for my mates bday. As I left his place, it was a different story, as he didn't know I had a soarer! Laid some serious rubber comming out of his driveway, which was described by everyone there as "the most smoke they've ever seen come out of a street car's tyres!"
This chap just couldn't contain himself, said he was gonna "lay down da phattest twinny known to a bro, fo'shizzle". Just so happens that the only 2 intersections on my mates road are exactly 1/4 mile apart. After a few runs up and down the road (and a slightly inebriated girl we went to school with starting the race off by waving her bra around ) with me TOASTING him every time, he conceded defeat by saying that his car must not be running right!
Which bring us to the moral of the story...
p-plater wannabes in r33s who talk like they just stepped out of south central LA who bad mouth soarers, get their ass whooped and try to make up by saying their car had a problem (when does a nissan run right?) BAD
Semi naked drunk chicks as parties who like to see tuned imports going hard, GOOD

Also, just happened to be the weekend that I was installing my new stereo. There was only the drivers seat in the car, ie no rear or passenger seat, carpet, door trims, console, etc (for those of you that know, less than what is there now!). It was also, about a week after Lew gave me his prototype exhaust after he melted his 1J. Mufflers weren't in yet. A tt, with no interior, no mufflers, p-zero's and 110 ron, like the skyline had any chance!

Speaking of burnouts and how good soarers are at doing said burnouts, a mate told me this story of how he had a fresh uncomplied soarer many years ago still with the snow tyres from japan and a another person in the same business complex who had a real disliking for toyotas, especially soarers. So anyway, to show this person what they can do, one day he drove the soarer up to their garage door while it was closed, reversed up to the door, then proceeded to lay down the rubber. A minute or so later, his still going, smoke has completely filled the complex, there is two black rubber (melted bits) strips stuck to the door, and the tyres have started to dig a sizable hole in the concrete. At this point he let it move to which it continued to lay two black strips going out of the business complex.
It took ages for the smoke to clear. Oh and it was TT auto that did this. I wish he had pics or a video.

i've only ever lost to 3 skylines, one of which had a rb26 and 257rwkw...its safe to say that ive raced over 60 including the one 2 nights ago who kept trying to surprise me by accelerating just out of nowhere on rolling start and even then he had no hope...oh and a few were pretty even, not many tho

I was dead even with an R32 GTR up to 170kms at Qld Raceway in my dead stock 1jz Corona. Was my first ever race as well. I was quite happy as Coronas aren't meant to go that fast :P

True they have got much better aftermarket support. I'd say handling would be pretty even but I haven't driven a Skyline so i'm not in a position to say!

Good point Paul, although this thread was only intended to point out that Soarers do better burnouts and generally have better straight line performance.

lucky me I've got the povo pack tt manual(with the stiffer chassis) and bilstein adjustable racing sus so cornering ain't too bad on my account. I've also had a bit of a race with one other skyline that was intercooled, bigger exhaust system and running more boost and I am still happy to say that it was fairly even. The dumbass tried telling me ...in his words "I got 260kw, wanna race" me: yea sure, mine's a stock dog, lets see how she goes" So I gave him a race...in the dark...on the wrong side of the road out the middle of the bush. He had 3 people plus himself in his car and I had a 1 mate with me. I kept up to him till I hit 3rd (doing roughly 100km) and noticed a sharp bend with a long dip coming up around the corner so I backed off and let him go ahead, got myself onto the right side of the road and watched him speed off down this corner and into the dip. His exhaust smashed on the ground and sent sparks flying everywhere which my mate and I cracked up laughing about...what an idiot(and completely dangerous). Anyway, we headed back into town and noticed some mates so we pulled over and had a chat and guess who shows up? Skyline bloke. First thing he does when he gets out of his car is come straight up to me and got in my face "You got FLOGGED" and I'm like...yea sure mate whatever you reckon. I went and checked his boost controller and he had been running 12 psi. So I go to him...so..260 at the wheels huh? thought you would have been quicker than that...I was keeping up with u till that corner and he said "I never said I had 260kw at the wheels...just 260kw" haha...this guy has no idea! His car was modelled after the f&f R34 GT-R skyline...sticker kit and all...cept his was a r33 GTS-T...lol...got rice!
Moral of this story...don't believe anything a 20yr old ricer skyline driver says...they are stupid!

Now im getting all hipped up...ok ill tell you one of my favourite stories....about a year ago a mate called me and he goes start your car, Bob (his mate) just got his cooler boost, and pod fitted and is looking for his 1st victim. Already had a full 3' exhaust. They came to my house, popped the bonnet with a big smile on their face saying things like so u ready to get your a$$ kicked etc....i was just like yeh we'll see
We left my joint and the whole way there, they were rite up my a$$ doing the cooler noise and other "fully sick" things.....1st set of lights, both very happy and smiling, the light goes green, i stuff up my take off a bit yet still manage to leave him for dead by a good 3-4 cars but back off at about 90....we'll go again!!!, we'll go again!!! stuffed up my take off he says...ok no worries...i didnt winge about my stuff up...2nd set of lights i get a perfect take off and by the end of roughly 1/4 mile he was over 7 car lengths behind me if not more (not over exadurating)...ok now somethings is wrong....lets go industrial area ...ok we get there after another 2-3 races he pops the bonnet saying the car is not running right...something is wrong (i think they just couldnt belive how much i was beating them by)....of course nothing was wrong so we call it a day....a few weeks later he runs 14 flat with semi slicks apparently spinning all the way to and through 3rd.....14 is what i ran with a catback, pod and 13psi...when i raced him i had a cooler, pod, dumps, full 3" exhaust 13-14 psi, and way better tires, maybe even torsen not sure.....anyways shortly after i ran 13.4 with those mods plus shift kit and since then i put the emanage, 440s 16psi stally...over all a gain of around 30-40kw since i raced him.....he gets his SAFC and a few extra pounds, runs 13.2 with 275 semi slicks and now the cockiness is back....when are we racing?

I forgot to mention I have a rather large subbox in my boot that weighs as much as a small child and the soarers are already 100kg heavier than skylines so weight would have been close to even. But 260kw even at the flywheel is close to 210-220 at the rears which I can tell you is quite alot more power than a standard soarer.
