*SHUDDER* .... I hate spiders. I had a whole next of Red Backs near my front door, I didn't realise either. I just kept seeing webs appear in the same spot everyday regardless of how often I swept them away, finally got some outdoor surface spray (good stuff!!), and sprayed around and no less than 7 of the little bustards came out from under the window ledge, plus quite a number of very small white ones, babies. Luckily they were all suffering the effects of the spray and I sat there and watched them die. Very satisfying.
I also get White Tails a bit around my place, now they are a nasty piece of work. They will actually stalk you. Should you get bitten by one, their venom can destroy large amounts of muscle tissue and nerves, I know one lady who lost a finger because of one.

yeah I was bitten by a white tail spider once. I was sleeping and it bit me on the leg, right on the front of my shin.
I had a big blister there for ages, then eventually it went down and I still have the scar. It looks like it ate away some muscle coverage from that area. Pretty scary now I think about it.
I prob should have gone to the doctor or something

All you people from NZ, you don't know how scary it is to see a spider on the wall (house and garden get sprayed every 3 months and these things are still there) about 10 - 12cm in radius, all black and hairy, with about 10 eye-balls. I used my shoe to kill it and it took a few good bangs and started running!!! I had to step on it and made a mess. In NZ if you fall asleep on the grass the worst that can happen is that you will catch a cold from all the humidity at night. No spiders, snakes, bugs, wolves, bears..... PERFECT!!!

Is it supposed to be dangerous?
I'm only going on what I was told as a kid. Like a centipede I think their bite (never heard of anyone being bitten) is mildly painful at certain times of the year. We were walking in the bush as kids when a mate spotted one on my jacket. He freaked out and punched it, winding me before I even knew it was there haha. Made a hell of an ugly mess lol.

Are Wetas dangerous, naar, cute as, just overgrown grasshoppers. Now, those giant centipedes can bite and give you infections. Our red backs, the Katipo spider, can put you in hospital but are shy so no worry. The nettle tree, well that's another story, wouldn't want to tangle with that mf.

Geez Tom!
I only saw a live snake in the wild for the first time the other day on a road, slithering across. Been pretty lucky that way, always see blue tongues and such.

i got bitten by redback after a big night at the pub, went to bed and bang on the arm. Painful for a small spider after some close inspection in the light it was a red back. It feels weird because you become itchy and sweaty in that area. So off to hospital where they had to stick a dripper in my vain and wait 4 hours to see if i had any reactions to the anti-venom. So i couldnt go to work the next day. stupid spider. BTW i burned the little prick good cost me $220 because i am only casual

Similar thing with me. I was bitten by a White Tail on the face, and after 3 days I couldn't see out of my right eye which was swollen shut, and not a hell of a lot outa my left eye. My whole face was swollen to the extent that the skin was almost at splitting point. All the guys at work thought I'd been severely bashed over HaHa. There was no pain whatsoever, and after the 4th day it went down, and returned to it's normal fugly self
ps: The doctor reckoned I was one of the "Lucky" ones who have a high tollerance for stings/bites etc, as he's seen tissue turn necrotic and fall off in some cases
All in all, I'd have to say it was quite a blast!!

Backhanded by the missus more like it. And deservedly so I'd say.

I'm beyond arachnaphobic.. I can't stand to be in the same room with the most common spider.. let alone anything. I've been bitten by a brown recluse (fiddle back) which are wayy worse then a black widow, 5 times. They can be fatal.. But as soon as I got pregnant with my son, they never bothered me again.
It was odd, as if i emitted some sort of hormone that attracted them to me..
