If you want your car to flutter like a VL then you can without changing the BOV just block up the standard BOV and you can get teh same flutter effect sound when you back off the throttle, but this will mean less power dont exactly know how much power you will lose as I have not had it done to my car yet. But I might get it done this weekend and see how it sounds and power wise. Another soarer had it done and my mate said it sounded good, so i'll let you know how I go with it. |

Yep the dredded air flow meter my brother has a skyline r33 too and he had the same problem until he changed the ECU that fixed the problem.The difference between $150 & $20 is the name but for performance and simplicity I went the blitz style mesh.To clean is easy just blow out with an air gun as for the others they are oil based so you have to replace on a regular basis.Wich costs too mutch money also the oil based ones are not permitted by rta the mesh ones are providing the sound level is not to loud and you don't have a front mount on. |

Patric blocking up the stock bov will end in teers eventually the turbines will be thrown in reverse and the ceramic turbines will fail and that will mean an expensive replacement but it is up to you and no dought your mates haven't done this yet(providing there ceramic turbo's) but it will eventually happen.With the loss of power thats due to the reversed spin then it has to go forward again (more presure)to spool up again. |

jeff...so the hks and turbosmart flutter bov's the flutter is bad or does nothing to the turbo? or you just recommend i get "the quiet sneeze" and if so what brand is yours because you sound like you know exactly what your talking about...and whats a plumb back? |

HKS plus kit will cost around $400-$450 And the same with the Turbosmart.My BOV is called a
v-port2 the only flutter i hear is at low boost release say around one pound to two the sneeze at full boost release.The plumb back is as it sounds it is plumbed back into the engine but little sound and legal!The others that isn't plumb back is not street legal they vent to air not back to the engine. |

Oh no, another one of Cihan's posts.
Its called compressor surge, the turbines never spin backwards. Its the compressor losing its grip on the air. When you let go of the gas the throttle body snaps shut. Since the compressor is still spinning the intake pressurises. But because there is no more exhaust gas to keep the turbo spinning fast enough, the compressor and turbine slow down. As the compressor slows it looses its 'grip' on the intake charge and pressurised air rushes through its housing and out your filter making choppy sounds.
The stock airbox is designed to reduce the sound completely, I beleive thats why its square.. Disconnect the stock airbox and drive the car - leave the stock BOV plumbed in, it will still holla like spanish girls at a ricky martin concert. |
