I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any experience with the Nissan 300ZX? I have lost my license (too many fines) and am unable to drive my V8 and the TT and want to swap my V8 for a 3.0L 300ZX. From what ive seen they match to a degree the luxurys of our cars and have fairly decent leather quailties, but what sells me is the looks, just so sexy... Im gibbering, so like i said, anyone got any experience? or even know anyone who would swap?

Andrew, I have driven a 1989 model, non turbo, manual. I was keen on buying one, but heard of a few issues with mechanical problems, complex to work on etc. It was a nice car to drive( did a 1,000k trip in a day), comfortable, and rode well. I would still buy one if price OK, and I had spare money for a toy. My boss has the one I drove, only has 16,000ks on the clock(genuine!!) And as you say, they look horny.

If you have lost your license, why are you looking to buy a 300ZX. You should be looking at a skate board or bike. Better yet bus and train time table. Or is it that you just can't drive high powered car's.Or maybe you should look at driving the blue car in your profile, and i don't mean the one at the back.hahahaahh

300zx's are good for people who have a bottomless pit of money. If anything on them breaks (and it will, many times!) then you will pay up the arse and back out through the nose!

I test-drove one before I got my Subaru SVX. I think it felt cramped and not that nice. I would much rather drive an SC300 or whatever the Soarer name is.

Personally I think looks wise they have dated badly, and will continue to do so. I test drove a couple of Z32's a few years ago - one N/A, the other TT. The N/A was not as responsive as my current JZZ31 is, but did drive nicely, though felt like a very large car (moreso than any Soarer I've driven) but still handled really well. The TT was wicked. Of course in the end I chose the UZZ30 over the Nissans, Supra's and Mitsi's I tested at the time, and didn't regret it. Even though my current Soarer is pov pak with a few options, I'd still say my Soarer interior is much nicer (and exterior too).

I've heard they overheat very easy... I was also thinking of buying one (TT), love the sporty look (though it dated really bad) and the targa top (I think that was the main thing that attracted me to this car lol) Interior is nicely set out too, but most of the cars I looked at were in shocking condition. The built quality is not as good as a Toyota. BTW, the JZZ31 has pretty much same luxury options as the ZX, without electric leather seats, though not all ZX's had leather anyway. Why can't you go for that?

I owned one for a few months until recently. It was ok- BUT IT DOES REALLY GO! My problems with it were quite seperate from its' performance which was really impressive, which leads me to this question-if you have trouble keeping your speed down in a Soarer, what makes you think you could do it in a 300ZX? In my short experience with them I had HUGE trouble keeping in the right side of legal with it, and I certainly found some road hazards with it that just don't exist in other cars. Er like other cars doing less that 100 kph was the main one!! Get one by all means.........but don't think you'll keep you licence with it!

They have serious over heating problems Expensive to fix (as all import cars are). They are very unrealiable. But put that aside they are pretty fast cars. Nice for a day or two worth of cruising but no to own. I was going to get a two seater twin turbo that was fully customised interior. TVS subs behind front seats, Was really good loking car (gun metal grey) but my mate said they are cars and came from the factory as lemons. All of them

| I have a friend who's owned a 92 Targa top, non-turbo, 2+2, auto one for 5 years, and has had no problems what so ever with it. BUT he was VERY fussy about selecting a mint one when he bought it. Other than regular servicing, he has had no additional expenses with the car. It's a bog standard one with the leather trim and pwr drivers seat. The difference between a Soarer & a Z, is that you can get a neglected Soarer, and it won't cost an arm and a leg to fix (Toyota's in general are far more tolerant of indifferent owners)...........but a Z is far LESS tolerant of neglect/slack maintenance, and will cost you a mint to put right, as they are an absolute bitch to work on. I think they're like any "Old" sports car, they get thrashed, and as they pass through less financially able owners, so the condition worsens to the point that the CARS get a bad rep, when in fact it's the previous OWNERS who should get the bad rep.

Nice call. ALthough I'm turkish and I know what a ferrari is ;) Definitely not that 80's looking batmobile Nissan put together. They are the worst built cars ever, true testament to badly built cars.

Thanks for your replys. I went out today and had a look at a couple, regardless of their dated look they are still beautiful. I was however VERY dissapointed in the quailty of the interior's. Not that their dated, but people just dont know how to maintain them. same problems as the soarer im afraid..Im cut and split at the same time
