My missus is looking to buy a car. I've been pushing the idea of a Celsior so that we can have one of each but she has decided that something like a Barina or an Echo is more her style.
Before I give up on the idea of an import, I wondered if there are any Barina sized cars that are worth importing from Japan, for around $10k?
Is it worth it given the costs of getting a car here and complied? Is it worth it given that there'll be very little demand for a small car import when she comes to sell it on?
I thought there might be some sort of super luxury small car that would be worth looking at, given the value I've got from an imported car.

Went for a ride in A Toyota Vitz the other day ( I think it's Echo family- it has the same awful centre dash) which was an upmarket model with 1.3 VVTi motor. Went like the clappers for a littley. The interesting thing was, it had an extra position on the gearshift (auto) marked "B". The mechanic, who was giving me a lift back to work after I'd dropped the '95 Soarer in for a rego check, showed me how it worked- it was "B" for braking, in other words engine braking. I have no idea how it worked though.
Getting back to the topic, I agree the Prius would be a good buy for $10k. Not as sophisticated or powerful as the later model, but nice if you don't mind driving slowly. Given that petrol has hit $1.96/litre here, I wouldn't mind one myself!

We've talked about her driving the Soarer and decided it would be a bad idea. It might come between us if it was...er...damaged in some way.
I take the beer scooter home.
I know it's getting a bit off topic, but has anyone bought cars from auctions like Pickles? Owning a Soarer has made me want something great for next to nothing.
