| I came up with these...
As you can probably guess, I spent the day at the Toyota Rally SA. This was the first time since I got my new equipment that I have been able to give it a decent tryout. Even after all that mud getting kicked up, I only ended up with a few dust specs on the camera. Also my first attempt at rally photography, probably due to it being my first time at a rally! They came out a bit more impressive than I was expecting, these are some of the better ones from the day, what do you think? Hopefully I will be able to get some sweet pics of the cruise next weekend |

| I'm using the 30d at present. Pretty much the same camera (newer model), only diffarence is that the lcd is larger and the shutter button is easier to get at. |

Ah the 30D, that's the body I am looking at for myself, although with having access to the 20D i'm not sure if its worth it. I might just save the money and put it towards a supercharger for the car |

| Thats really impressive Ben, Why do the photos look so.. cool? The effect im talking about defines the difference between professional photo's taken with good cameras, and pics taken with standard digi cameras... Some realism in the pic, feel me? |

For those of you that know anything about photography, most of the pics of the day were taken at 300mm at f4.0, well out of the range of most cheaper cameras. Also, in the last pic of the corolla, the shutter speed was 1/2000th of a second. No point and shoot camera is capable of that, hence why all the crap getting kicked up off the road seems to be hanging in mid air. |

| I've been toying with the idea of getting 30D for a while now. Didn't know anyone that had one, until now. I'll have to get one next after the Exhaust, Diff, Bushes, Trans, Wheels & Paint Job. Really though, fantastic shots Ben. |

Ok ,I knew this would probably start after I said it! Let me re-phrase, not many are. Also, mine can go down to 1/8000th of a second |

| Score of the century really, I got the camera, 1 gig card and an extra battery for $1800. The lens was $1400, and that included the 2x converter!!! The lens itself usually retails for about $1900 and the converter is $400 on top of that. So if I put that on, I can go 200-600 f8.0. Only problem is that the converter needs the lens to be f2.8 or faster for AF to operate. MF is a small compensation when I have effectively got a 600mm lens for under $10K. I also managed to get the remote for the camera that sells at $120 for $45, and a Canon 50mm f1.8 portrait lens for $100, all brand new and in boxes! It all came from a combination of eBay, online stores, and some serious sucking up to a local camera store. Just as an indicator to the non-photographic terminology inclined... that top pic of the blue wrx, I was over 200m away when I took that |

| I really like the second pic.. Looks 'promotional' =). What do you think of the canon s80 for a normal digi Ben, or the various fijifilm models with all the fancy ccd tech? Off Ebay you can get the s80 delivered for a tad over 600 with 1gb sd, extra battery etc.. 200m? Thats nuts! |

| The S80 seems like a good camera going by the specs from canon's web site. It all depends on what you need it for, for general pic taking it should be fine. For my work I need a major amount of zoom, hence why I had to go down the slr path. Only problem with that is that sigma lens we've been talking about plus the camera, comes in at nearly 4kg! Gets a bit weighty carrying that around all day. |

| 350D is what I have, check www.wadragracing.com for my drag racing pics. Virtually the same as the 30D except not as high end (less settings etc). Still 8 megapixel, SLR, so on... |

| The S80 is a fantastic camera. Main reason we got it was 1) I get Canon stuff at cost, and 2) Its a good camera for scuba diving - but as far as digital compacts go, its the best I've used for pretty much any situation. Of course you can never beat an SLR, but the DC is much more convenient for snapshots, and the S80 has enough grunt to still take some startlingly good photos, close to what you would get with an SLR! |

| Probably look at getting the Digital Rebel (350D) then, unless I can pick up the 30D as cheap as Ben. |

| The 350D is a good camera but if you are keen on the 30D then look at a second hand 20D as well. The arrival of the 30D should have pushed down the price of the 20D even though the differences are not great yet the 20 is still a cut above the 350. The main reason for going any of these is access to different lens. If that does not interest you then you get more features for your money with an all-in-one like the S80. Another little thing Ben mentioned and which you should note is that big lens are heavy. A camera you can stick in your pocket is likely to be used more often than one you hang around your neck or put in a bag with accessories. |
