Had the car about a year now:
First took her to Extreme Machines.
Bumper repaired/Resprayed
Headlights cleaned
Rust-spot removed
Fire Extinguisher installed
$2500 - doesn't add up to me
Extreme Machines broke my c/c adjuster circuit board!
I put a computer in the glove box, and Alberts Cannington put the monitor in. ~$3000
New battery $130

Then I found Phil's Mech
C/c board fixed
New door hinge
New disks, pads, repair calipers
Power steering line burst/repaired
Front bushes
Other bits and pieces I can't remember.
~$2000 over like 8 months
new battery $145

Then by Mobile Master:
Error messages fixed.
Earths fixed, wiring repaired.
New Alt, belts, water pump, c/c screen, HID fitted, lights cleaned.
$2600 including HID kit and c/c screen!!

Booked in for P/S pump, Gearbox service, and c/l motor.

So about $10k in about a year, but $3k on an in-car pc and $2500 spent at Extreme Machines on stuff any other place would have charged about $1550 (painter told me paint total was $800, ~$500 for glasswork, ~$200 for lights cleaned and $50 for Fire/E).

hehem i wouldnt exactly call a 430 comparable!!

You could do it with a mild Falcodore. Theres about 9k lost in the first 18months.

We picked up our BA pre-fuel crisis for 24k last year....would get what..15k for it now, and its a stocker. The XR6 and Boss and SS cars are even worse!

I was not trying to say that the Soarer was the cheapest to buy and maintain but rather that you can buy and maintain several old luxury cars for the depreciation cost on one new one (in which case a UZZ30 to UZZ40 comparison is reasonable). You remind me of another point I did not make which is that an old Soarer/Celsior is typically a better car than a new Falcodore and still costs no more over its whole-of-life anyway.

Since December 2007:

- 2 new tyres (pass roadworthy)
- oil & filter changed 3 times
- new battery
- changed all the wipers
- removed badges, repainted scratch and boot at same time (home-job)
- made a BFI (grand total of $2 for a hacksaw blade, and a 50c piece of corflute)

Things to fix:

- front passenger side TEMS strut (part sitting in a box waiting to be installed)
- blinky dash
- numerous dents from arseholes in supermarket car parks
- transmission issue, and it's due for a service next time I drop the oil out anyway

Planned mods:

- full exhaust
- Emanage
- forced induction
- maybe a manual conversion
- respray, when the paint starts looking and Mr Meguiar can't fix it for me!
- along with the new paint, shiny new rims to replace the old scuffed up gutter rashed ones I've got. I like them though, so I might put them in the shed for 'ron.

Lucky I bought it when I did... 10,000km prior to purchase it had the big 200,000km service with the belts and all that jazz replaced. Got out of some big dollars there!

- Engine blew
- Hole in exhaust
- Powersteering fluid let go 100kms from home
- Hit dog, bumper totalled as well as dog
- Engine blew again
- Struts cactus
- Brakes warped, shimmed...
- Brakes warped again
- Brakes still warped
- Gearbox blew
- Onto my 5th set of rear tyres and soon to be 3rd fronts

I'd say it's survived pretty well from my 2 years of harsh ownership. Purchasing the car for 6k, spending 3k on mods alone, and running a 12.9, couldn't be more happy with it.

My car also has a weird habit of fixing itself after a few days.

In the 2.5 years that I've had the JZZ30, I've only had to replace the water pump. With that being said though, I have a feeling my power steering pump is on its last legs.

The UZZ31 however has had it's engine replaced, new TRC accumulator, 2 x power steering pumps, TV tuner, alternator, and ripped out airbag suspension and replaced with standard coils.

Drives like a dream now though :-)

Had my UZZ31 for about a year and a half now. In this time, main things that I had replaced were the battery, carpet, passenger side power window regulator, lower control arm bushes, 2 cat converters, steering rack bushes, and 1 rear airbag strut.

Apart from that, just the usual money on mods and consumable parts; tyres, fluids, filters, plugs/leads etc.

Bought mine in April this year with 120,000kms

So far it's had:

- 1 x minor service
- 2 x new tyres today (front)

It now has 126,000kms

It still needs:

- New bushes front and rear (creaky)
- Transmission flush (brown fluid) and possibly mounts too (jerky when lightly accelerating in overdrive and you back off the throttle)
- Possibly new spark plugs
- Passenger's side door trim repaired (nearly every screwhole has snapped)
- New exhaust (In a past life it looks like the exhaust has smashed into the rear subframe, crushing it into an oval section)

I hope to get around to fixing all of these things one day (Neil helppp)

Had my soarer 3 years.

Things that have gone:

- power steering jammed after car sat 3 weeks while I was in HK, seal kit fixed that.
- one leaking airbag, regretfully moved to coilovers.
- minor crack in drivers side trim (repaired myself).

well, heres my 3 soarers... I've had really good luck I must say :-)

1991 JZZ30, bought with 60,800km's sold it with 106,000 after 2.5 years, replaced -

- Replaced rear rotors after the pad's wore all the way down
- Blinky dash fixed
- 100k service just before I sold it.

Thats it :-)

1995 JZZ30, bought with 62,300 km's sold it with 98,000km's after 2.5 years

- Arrived with a blown Igniter
- Replaced a blown fuse
- Blinky dash fixed
- Rear rotors were shagged again so went all out with slotted all around, brake lines, bendix pads and painted calipers.
- Replaced windscreen that I cracked
- Spent $20k+ on mods

New owner is extremely happy with his purchase :-)

1996 UZZ31, current car bought with 92,300km's

- Passenger side airbags are leaking, am gonna replace all 4 corners, air compressor and do all steering rack and suspension bushes all in 1 hit
- Car is bog stock with nothing too extreme planned, will make it look good and sound good and keep it for a long time as my daily driver.

We've had very little go wrong with ours in 3 years of ownership. It arrived with blown igniter and several fuses and fusible links, and has recently had a miss at idle (which the mechanic couldn't fins a source for, I've bought 3 new ignition leads ( a set) which as yet are not fitted).

Early last year I had the water pump, plugs and timing belt done, not that they were due, because labour was cheap on Norfolk Island. The water pump became noisy after about a month (bearings) and was replaced "under warranty" although I had to pay for labour. It probably didn't need a new water pump anyway as the one that came off looked newish and had probably been changed at the previous timing belt change some 35,000km earlier.

We also had all fluids changed with the exception of the auto fluid (no auto box specialists in remote areas), and somewhere along the way put 16" Lexus wheels on it.

It's onto its third battery, the first was knackered on pickup and the second went when I was given a freebie slightly bigger and newer than the previous one (although we've since had issues with the third battery going flat, most likely due to lack of use).

Nothing much has gone wrong with the car aside from the early drama and most work has been "tinkering at the edges" rather than necessary repair work, and other than the wheels and a partial BFI it's stock.

I bought the car since last sept for 8k with 124 000kms.

Replaced timing belt (as there was no proof previous owner did), new trans oil, new plugs.

New fully synthetic oil added
Turbos blew...

Went single, got the car back 2.5 weeks later.
Got pulled over within 3 hours (i baby my car).
Wastegate plumbed back (plumming ran under the crossmember, making it the lowest point and a bitch to drive) i then went back to screamer in a few months (i dont rev beyond 3.5k as it gets way too much attention but i giv it some atleast once a week). 3 days after the conversion the turbo seal went! Received a rebuild by mtq!

Left lower control arm bush soon became perished as well as steering rack bush!

Got car lowered at ozzie tyres. They tried to take off the rear sway bar link n but failed, then tried to say it was wear and tear!!! I cant figure out why they trying to take it off?
CAr then went to paul from extreme to replace.

8 - 9k later. Car runs like a dream.
My car wont be receiving any bday presents. Why you ask? i wanted to buy rims and after months of sooking, we came to an agreement. i promised my gf i wont spend anymore money on it (for 2years), except for maintance.

EASY fixes mate !

I simply used some Tarzan super glue on my broken vents then i sanded the excess stuff off and they came up really well and its not too obvious that they have been repaired.

I also just ordered a replacement handbrake boot from US ebay for about 28AU delivered to my door ! sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
