I used to own a 1991 TT soarer but had to sell it due to fuel prices and insurance about a year ago. Hopefully in a couple of months I'll be in a financially better position to buy a soarer again but am tossing up between a V8 and a TT. My preference goes to the turbo as all my past cars have force fed, but the V8 wins in the luxury dept, plus I have a bike which satisfies my need 4 speed. Can anyone that owns or has owned both give me an idea of what the difference in insurance is between the two? I'm 27 rating 1, so age shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Maybe try ringing some insurance companies and get some quotes on TTs and V8s, Or go to there website and try and get a quote? Least you know for sure what you will be paying.

Don't bother with online quotes, they're about as useful as a half inch of string! You really need to talk to someone on the phone or in person to get the best deals. My 'online' quote was nearly $2000! I went in person and talked turkey with them (Shannons) and it came down to $1350, and that includes cover on the racetrack and I also automatically get to keep the wreck in the event of a write off without having to buy it back

Thanks for all the replies. I've tried the online quote things but the only one I could get to work for me is Shannons and they only have the V8 listed and no TT for some reason. Still it's looking like there isn't much of a difference insurance wise between the two as I was expecting the V8 to be much cheaper.

Just make sure you get the proper coverage. No matter who you chose, cheapest isn't always the best.
Unique will charge you an excess even if you are not at fault and have the other drivers details. They also will drop your rating. Thus the reason I gave them the flick after 2 years.
Just cars seem to have a good policy - but no monthly payments. Have to pay all up front.
Shannons have monthly debits and they will assess your car if you think the insurance is too low. They were also cheaper than Just cars with the added bonus as Ben S mentioned.
As for other companies, as long as you check that they use genuine parts, choice of repairer, no excess when no fault etc etc you should be right.
Good luck with it all. Get copies of all their policies and read the fine print before you chose.

I'll agree with Tamatha on Unique, I was also paying them monthly and if you make a claim you have to pay the whole years insurance out. Once I hit rating one again I'll change.
