Let me know how you get on as I'll probably have to get one for my car in the near future. I think its a travesty to put a tow bar on a GT, but my fiancee's Levin wouldn't tow a piece of paper, so it may have to be the Soarer.

hahaha Bill!
FYI I drove the S class from Melbourne to Darwin. Sat on over 200kmh+ for hours at a time, even maxed out the engine at top gear for over 20mins straight, and it didnt miss a bit. For what its worth, a 1981 Benz 5.6l V8 has six bolt mains, chamfered oilers, piston squirters, forged rods, steel crank, balanced pistons, and aluminium-silica block material that can do more kms than anything else I know. OHC too and euro versions made 300HP. The AMG versions made a wallop more (380HP in top trim) with AMG Twin Cam 4 Valve heads, cams, extractors. Pity every electrical item is made by bosch and is really 1970's tech.....the only downfall of such great cars. The 1990's cars are and the rest is history. My car is only a poxy inline 3litre 6 with one cam.
Unfortunately, I stacked it into a pole, so Im giving it to my Old man for spares. Not bad for a 50kmh crash. I was not injured save for a bit of seat belt bruise. Check it out fellas:

Dude that's not that much of an achievement. I had an early 90s Volvo in England. Bought it for about a thousand pounds. 1.7 litre motor, old oil. Drive it straight down the Autoroute to the French riviera. Quite a few back to back 2 hour stretches at redline in top gear - 210kmh. Then drove it back, same treatment. Then to Scotland, same deal except about 150kmh most of the way. Then about 5 trips 200km up to Nottingham and 200 back, 75 minutes each way. Car didn't miss a beat either. And it was a sh!tbox. I've done similar things to quite a few other cars.

I know its not much of an achievement, 3600km in 2 1/2 days is bugger all. A taxi driver in greece had a 116 Benz on diesel, did 2.4 million kms. Basically had two diesel engines on the go at any time so that when one finally gave up after 5-600k there was another one ready to drop in! Its now in the MB Head office on display in Germany. Sadly, they gave the greek guy a brand new C class for agreeing to give them the car. Rumour has it he sold it and bought three 116's a load of parts and now RUNS the taxi company. Could have bought a nice soarer and a couple of old benzs..... By 20mins straight, i mean a full 20mins falt out at max rpm. Overall it would equate to about 9 hours at max RPM (about 220km/h needs a fifth gear as theres plenty of motor left in it), but corners and trucks and one lane each way mean you have to make allowances! Used about 5 litres of oil for the journey. Had to add oil everytime I stopped for fuel!

Yeah, and by "back to back 2 hour stretches at redline in top gear" I mean the pedal was flat to the floor, it was in 5th gear, and the tacho needle was in the little red section. For 2 hours at a time. Only had to stop every 2 hours to get fuel and go through a toll. No corners on the Autoroutes, just gentle sweeping bends. Lines of Blackbirds would go past me at about +100kmh. I added no oil. There are many 1UZs in Lexuses in the US with over 500,000km on them and still going fine.
Sorry mate, but your kaiserwagen stories just aren't that impressive. Mercedes Suck.

anyone got a pic of the hidden tow bars? do they have a colour coded cap so you cant see them?
Have a look at my profile pic. My car came with a towbar and I just removed the tongue and ball, you can just see a little bit sticking out under the number plate, no cap though.

Nope, just sick of hearing guys with filthy old diesel mercs telling me how they are the best cars ever made because they can go 400,000 on an engine. It doesn't count as a Mercedes if it is 15 or more years old (unless it's a gullwing or similar). Show me your brand spankers E55 AMG and I'll be impressed.

Greg, got a larger photo? Miles, I've never had a diesel. E55? Sorry, im not out to impress, I just like restoring true classics. That w126 took me a year and a half.
