Well I'll probably go to the Sir James Mitchell Park on the South Perth foreshore to watch and would be keen to enjoy it with other people haha, probably be there from about ten onwards.
Anyone here is welcome to come, my number is 0439 918 330 if you want to catch up down there.

I'll come find you - I most definitely plan to be down there. I'm thinking about heading to Langley Park early when they have it open to the public too.

Wow, packed! I gotta say that they are lucky it was free though, it got boring pretty quick. We left after the first race. It is still pretty spectacular and I am glad I saw it but not sure I will do same thing next year.
And no Paul I will not do a burnout with a highway patrol car watching. Those girls were very nice...how muuuuuch?

It sucked to be honest... the only exciting thing were the jets... went down there for half an hour for the sake of being there, but I've been watching it from my office window since friday while they were practicing during the day so yeah, I've been sick of it since friday arvo I thought they would at least fly lots lower than that, they were flying as high as a third storey building...

Say what you wish, but it takes skill and guts to fly on the deck and that is considered "ON THE DECK". If you get a chance to be on the "sticks" I suggest you give it a go, then you will know what I mean, especially when you are on approach and see the ground approaching fast.

Alot of small planes approach at less then 80kmh. They are flying at approach levels at 400kmh. The sensation is more intense then being in a fast go cart.

Oh don't get me wrong, I realise there is a lot of skill involved in flying those planes that way, and I have the most admiration and respect for these pilots. I'm just referring to it as an observer, after a third day it got boring, but it's just me and my attention span the size of a peanut

Well, I don't care what anyone else says, that was the most awesome thing I've ever seen in my life. The world's best pilots in the world's best aerobatic aircraft is not something you get to see every day, especially not in a backwater like Perth.
Growing up around aircraft, and being into all things aviation from a very young age, I never thought I'd ever get the opportunity to see this sort of thing. Air racing was huge back in the 20's and 30's, but after WWII, planes just became too commonplace, and they didn't capture the public's excitement anymore. So for the latter half of the 20th century, these competitions have been relatively small affairs, known only within aviation circles. I am so glad to see them coming back like this. I think it says something very good about aviation in general when a city of only 1.2 million can pull a crowd of over 300,000 for an air race.

Keeep in mind there were lots of tourists among those 300,000 people... there were no vacant rooms in any hotels or motels in the whole metropolitan area over the weekend, all booked out! Still, not a bad turnout! Times like these I always think that burglars will be happy to know every third house in Perth will be vacant!
