Hey here's a question.
Let's say I do two burnouts in my Gemini and caught each time under hoon laws. I win Lotto and then buy a Ferrari and do a burnout and I get caught. Does the Ferrari get taken away? Vice versa if I do two burnouts in a Ferrari then take my Festiva out hooning does just the Festiva get taken away. Big difference in "penalty". $500 fine versus $200k fine....

Yep, Or two guys, one in a spanking 40k car and the other in said 500 dollar gemini both get caught. How is that fair.
If you lose your car on the third time, does it reset the count. Such as I get caught twice in the soarer, and then take the old ford out, get it confiscated. Am I back to a zero count, and can go hooning in the soarer again??
Also I heard that for a permanent confiscation it has to go through the courts to get a confiscation order. Can anyone confirm??

I heard that too Dan, some moronic n00b from Bendigo in his R33 GTST got caught for the third time, the Police are getting permission from the courts to take it for good.

That's not the point Adam. I think $200k would be a serious dent in anyone's pocket, it isn't just a fine. The point is that two people can commit the same crime yet the penalties are vastly different. It would be a rare situation I admit, but even a fine in the tens of thousands is relatively big. Just because you are rich doesn't mean you should be fined more. That defeats the purpose of capitalism.

True and i agree with ya. My point was more of a mild sarcastic approach to the rediculousness of the confiscation laws. But having said that, if you own a $200k car, you wouldnt be driving like a tool anyways.
... Ok one exception being a famous ferrari driver late last year. lol

Same here, 39% tax on the top $20,000 of my salary, and any bonuses, plus GST on everything I buy on top of that, plus you have to pay for practically every "service" anyway.
I think its something like 19% for up to $20,000, 33% from 20,001 - $60,000, and 39% from 60,001+. God forbid anyone be encouraged to work hard and get a good job.

Different for NZ Daniel, our top rate is lower, but cuts in earlier. I think we do have a tax exempt amount too, but really not sure as I've never earned that little! We have a thing called ACC premiums, which is much the same as your meicare surcharge.
