I came across this promotion CitiBank is doing right now. If you sign up for their credit card, any purchases you make at BP (including petrol) will be reduced by 5%. Sounds cool, considering I only shop at BP for petrol. So, if say price of fuel is $1.20, it will be reduced by 6 cents. $1.30, it will be reduced by 6.5 cents. $1.40, reduced by 7 cents and so on. Might not be much in short term but after a while it will add up. No joining fee, or annual fee for the first year. 55 days interest free. My plan? Already signed up, get a small $500 limit, and use it only for purchasing petrol at BP, and pay it off completely each month so don't get charged any interest. This promotion will last for the lifetime I was told. But I will probably quit after a year to avoid the annual fee, and join again lol! :-)

Since everyone here in WA uses BP fuel, I just thought I let yous know. It might add up quite a bit after a while... }

Shell fuel?? Mate you're not getting the power you would be getting if you had 98 RON fuel :\ And flybuys is the biggest load of sh|t ever. I got it and use it all the time whenevr I can, been a memebr since urrr, 2003, and only now (2007) got 16,000 points, which pretty much lets me get a good toaster, or a cordless phone, or a $20 MYER voucher... what a joke!

I was in Carousel last thursday and noticed a big banner in the middle of the mall, near where Target is, "Save 5% off BP" or something like that, so I just started asking questions, and figured would be a good idea to sign up. They were CitiBank guys, not BP guys, so best to ask CitiBank. I still have the brochure at home, but not sure how long this is gonna last for. Not gonna cost me a cent in interest if I stick to my 'fuel purchases only, pay all back at end of month' plan...

lol
How would using 98ron on a stock car give me anymore power? Maybe if the car was tuned or modded perhaps. Means I can lean the car out more I suppose. But what happens when there is no Ultimate at BP? I remember a time when BP was out of Ultimate and all the import boys bitched and moaned because of this. I am happy using the Premium grade fuel which is 95ron and when I start modding etc (if I ever do) I think I won't upgrade to 98ron unless I really have to or there are more sources for it.

The car is tuned stock to 100 RON fuel, as in Japan grade fuel. You put a premium 95 RON fuel, it will either have less power at same fuel usage, or same amount of power at higher usage, either way the ECU adjusts itself somewhat due to sh|ttier quality fuel. It will most likely cost you more anyway to use 95 RON fuel becasue your fuel usage will be higher than if you were using the 98RON fuel. The fact you think you save 5 cents a litre or whatever the differnece is, si offset by higher fuel usage. Common sense. I think there were some discussion about the different fuels and stuff a while ago somewhere, do a search.

But yeah, it will be handy having that Caltex 98 RON fuel around in case BP farks up agian, which I hope doesn't happen.

I have been saving 14c/l with my discount vouchers lol for the last month or 2. I get 550-600 KM out of a full tank majority of the time. Maybe I'll put in ultimate for a few tanks and see if anything changes. I remember doing it a while ago and didn't notice much difference. Do I need to do an ECU reset if I change fuel?

Reset it Kim, that way you know it adjusts to new fuel. Just make sure she is nice and hot, so you can push it a bit

Whatever Still not much for three years of 'effort'...

Where do you get 14c per litre vouchers? It's not staff discount or anything is it? Nah I dont think u need to reset it, it will adjust itself, though it wont hurt.

10c/l from spending more than 80 dollars at coles (groceries) and then additional 4c voucher from using a source mastercard (same as the BP citibank card in a way)

Kim you NOOB, its 96Ron. Being a Shell/coles express employee gives us our benefits, heck i never pay full price :-)

The truckies that deliver our shell petrol fill up side by side with the BP truckies. ALL fuel comes from the BP refinery. Fuel should be the same. i don't see why people stress over bp ultimate.

with ours stating 96RON, it means our fuel blend is at Minimum 96RON, so at times they probably are putting 98ron in our tanks.

i've put both in my tank and noticed no difference but only the difference in cost and CRAP customer service at BP. Again, Don't bother stressing saving a couple c/l it ain't worth it.

The extra power you gain with 98ron fuel aint the difference, its the long term benefit of non rooted valves that will save you money.. Carbon deposits from unburnt fuel and build up, making you lose more and more power.. Till you run ontane booster or fuel system cleaner.. Which gives you the benefit of making your motor reliant on the stuff and run without it..

The type of fuel you run is just as important as the type of oil you use..

I dont understand why people are happy paying thousands on bodykits and stereos while not forking out a few more dollars to run better fuel..

Trust me, its not just advertising i've seen the difference on stripped engines myself, you can clearly see sediment and on pistons and valves.. Use good fuel..

98 is low anyway compared to the rest of the world.. Our fuel here is compared to Europe and Japan..

Dan, trust you to find some scheme like that.. Nice one..

again, that's probably an engine that has been using 91-92 ron compared to an engine using 98 ron.

As said before, the labelled octane ratings on fuel for all companies are at Minimums. Not all batches are the same RON rating. That's why BP and others get dodgy batches of fuel probably because they're actually below their minimum octane levels.

actually, I'm pretty sure only a handful of european countries have fuel over 98ron. japan of course having a minimum of 100ron.
Shell have 100ron over east, without the use of ethanol. V-power i think its called.

again, if you are spending more then normal buying premium, why not use the best.. I worked at BP and Mobil for a while, we had regular tests of all out fuel including octane and contamination testing..

Oh and by the way most of the motors i saw the insides of were running premium fuel, mianly people that had little technical knowledge but owned Jap imports. Most of them used caltex premium, coz they heard it was the best.. You can even see a difference by looking at the spark plugs..

Anyway, i dont really care, what you put into your car is up to you, i prefer not to risk it as i do my own work on cars and know the work required with fixing these problems..

I don't know much technical knowledge about fuel and stuff, but to me it is common sense that if a car is designed to run on 100RON fuel, you want to use fuel that is closest to that spec. Kim, if you think 95 is ok to use on a car desgined to run 100, then why not use 91 as well...
