Well what can I say but AGAIN! “I had a blast “
I left work 29th fri arvo 3.45pm got to juzza’s place about Sat 1.30 am, had a bit of a chat, then had a sleep, got up at 6.30am then off to Philip Island I went.
Went to Banfields Hotel first to get my room, then off to the garage, fuelled up
Gave the car a wash, then off to PI found a spot to park and unload the car(same spot as before juzza! )
Then went to sign up for the Days racing .
Sailed through the Scruternering, then all ready to go, weather started to get cloudy and started to rain just as I was going to go on my first run!” bloody typical” I thought to myself.
So it was a bit of slipping and sliding on the track, so I came off, wasn’t going to prang my car! , as I was there just to do a PB and if possible get under 2Mins. ‘Little did I know’
Then the weather cleared ok for the rest of the day.
Racing was not as enjoyable in Sat Morning sessions though.
As usual I put myself in the I class, usually that’s fine, but this time for some reason
There were Carrera Cup Porsches, Formula Ford’s, Go Karts, one V8supercar,
Anyway to cut a long story short, I spent more time looking at blue flags waving at me, looking in my rear view mirror, and having my bloody arm out the window waving these bastards by.

Then Mark Herbstreit turned up and introduced himself, Mark stayed most of the day.
Lunchtime came and it was passenger time! , Mark had brought his helmet just in case!’
So out we went, first time for both!, he hadn’t been racing around PI before , and I hadn’t had a passenger, so we were both Virgins!, not for long thought.
Was good as I had just been out and the tyres were nice and sticky, so first lap nice and easy, then second lap put a bit more into it(you are only allowed to go 80% of race pace ‘
It was only for two laps, not long enough really, came in, Mark said he enjoyed it ,then over the PA system “if there any one else wishing to be a passenger this is your last chance”, so I said to Mark” shall we do it again!. Grin comes on his face, so off we go to the pits, Guy comes up to the car, I asked him if it was all right to go out again!
“No Mate sorry only once for each passenger”, Bugger!
“oh come on mate he hasn’t been out before!” I looked at him with my puppy eyes.
Hold on ‘ he walks down to clerk of course, I see him pointing at my car, then he leans out a bit and gives me the thumbs up!, yippee!
Now were cooking!
Let’s just say the next two laps weren’t like the first two,

Then I went into the office and had a bit of a whinge! (I am a Pom after all!)
About the group I was in , so they put my into another group with some of the guys I knew there , well then it was full on mate ,all I had to do was concentrate on my driving, I had a mind set of getting below two minutes on Sunday.

Mark stayed nearly all day, good on ya Mark, for your support, and glad you had a good time.

So by 4.30pm, I was cream crakered, called it a day and went to Banfields.
I slept well that night, all ready for the big go on Sunday.

Sunday Started with rain so I didn’t do much for the first timed sessions so that was a DNF for run 1,then great day, sun was out, and I was raring to go, James and Ross Turned up later and said hi, James took some pix, and timed a lap for me, thanks James
Piarc do need to get there organising sorting out about grouping the right cars together on sun though, a couple of laps I was slowed down by other cars, but I cracked the Mighty 2 minute barrier in session two ,
And nearly beat my old PB on session three,.

Session four was interesting
First lap I was going hard, those Pzero Slicks stuck to the ground, coming around for lap two. flew out of turn 2 (Honda) perfect turn into Siberia , just coming out of apex, right foot to the floor, then just for a split second in the corner of my eye, it looks like a tyre flying off into the gravel trap !’ what the f#ck!’
Crash !, right side of car dips down and slides along the track onto the grass and goes parallel to the gravel trap, ‘F#ck’ I’ve lost a tyre ( I thought), comes to a stop .
Manages to open door, then has a look at what’s happened, Holy Molly I haven’t just lost a tyre, the f#cking wheel’s disappeared as well!
I go and get my tyre, slashed to bits, no good now.
Then realise that I’ve sheared nearly all my hub bolts off!
(It’s only later on reflection I realised why!) Ah duh!

Tow truck comes out and drags the beast backwards onto the tow truck.
By the way let this be a warning to you guys who have an FMIC fitted and decide to get rid of your under tray, DON’T!, my car just slide over the grass, because I had my FMIC fitted with the under trays still in place, if I had not, then the whole of the front FMIC etc would have got damaged, as it happened everything’s fine apart from my right Guard and rotor.
Truck took car back to where I had my gear, and then set about fixing (best I could) the damage, knocked out broken studs, and took two from passenger front hub.
Mark was there all the time giving me moral support!( cheers mate!)
And waited till I was ready to go home, he followed me till I got to juzza’s road at Cranbourne.
Popped in had a quick cup off tea, (juzza thought I was staying the night!)
Should have seen his face when I told him I was going home now, as I had to be at work Monday morning 5.30am!
So off I went home staying a steady 100k’s all the way home.
Managed to pick up a Right hand Guard (BLACK!) on way home from work Monday, picked up my new Hub Bolts today, and my new rotors wed!
AND! Getting my Spigot Rings for my 18” rims on Friday.
Decided to change all my Hub Bolts as best to be safe than sorry, don’t fancy having that happen again thanks very much!

So another exciting weekend at Philip Island, shame there wasn’t more Soarer Guy’s there.
But your loss not mine.

Jeff (peer pressure) hahahahahaha don’t think so mate, there’s only one person I compete against, and that’s me.
And if I was worried about getting my car damaged then I wouldn’t do it.
IF anything I can say to you guys who want to do this, this is it.
LIFE’S TOO SHORT TO PUT OFF THINGS YOU WANT TO DO.
So do them now.

As a good mate of mine used to say,"IT’S ALL GOOD FUN"

Cheers
Gazza

i always give they an extra turn , how they came loose is anyone's guess!
i know we couldnt find any of them on the track, on the grass, next to the wheel !so who knows.

Sorry to hear of your troubles Gaz, but I suppose it could be worse! Damn shame about wrecking one of your beaut tyres in the process too! Good to hear you managed to still get home safely & congrats on the 1.59!!

Good to see the enthusiasm is still there & that you're getting the car fixed so quickly!! Out of interest was the camera in this time??

Anyway hope to catch up soon. I'm doing my best to have a car ready for PI in September, although time & money are against me as usual!

Sanjay - cheers mate, yep i cracked the 2 min barrier,Wahoo,

No didn't bother with the dv camera this time, as i was the only ALSC driver racing that weekend, couldnt see the point.
besides doubt if the incident with my wheel coming off would have shown much.

putting new rotors on this weekend, with new hub bolts on all 4 wheels
taking it to manta racing next week for Steve to give it the 'once over'and get another wheel alignment, also need another slick!

So i'll be ready for Philip Island in September,

Hope you can make it Sanjay.
