| I've used an ipod for two weeks in the past, every day, for the hell of it just to see what it's like (my brother's). I have also used other brands, Cowon, iRiver and so on. Based on that I've come up with an opinion. My opinion has been formed and has a wide basis for comparison, since I have used it, and other brands of mp3 players. While ipod is not the worst, it is far from best as you people (that only ever had an ipod) claim. Look outside the square you live in people! |

| No, you already formed an opinion before you even used an iPod I can tell you that there was *nothing* that even came close to the iPod when i bought mine - not Creative, not iRiver, not $20 China specials And im not in the habit of dropping 4-500 bucks on something at a whim |

Quote which fact in my posts is incorrect? Ok I haven't looked at ipods for few months, perhaps they now come with full band equaliser? Or USB host built in? Or FM radio, voice recorder? Or perhaps it is possible to choose the exact song you want on the shuffle? Or perhaps you can just drag and drop MP3/WMA/OGG files and let them play straight away? If those are the case then ok, I'll take it back.

YES!!!! Exactly! Refer to Callum's post for example:
Callum Finch wrote on Thursday, August 16, 2007 - 08:28 pm:A lot of people buy the iPod purely because it is a fashion statement; look at the shuffle or mini.

Well, it look like you have formed your opinion there yourself beforehand too Phil Not even close?? Are you serious? In what respect. Tell me, what important technical features (I don't care about the pretty loosk bullsh|t) does the iPod have that any other brand doesn't? In the overall sense? |

| No i didnt - it was a *fact* backed up by *reviews* that the other players in the market were not as good overall as the iPod when i bought mine. I couldnt give two about FM radio, recording or whatever, i bought what was the best player *for me* at the time You obviously have a problem dealing with the concept that for many people Apple's product is the best choice |

| Daniel, how often do you voice record or listen to the radio? Most people would not use these functions and have no need for them. Besides you sold your Soarer for a pffft IS. |

| Yeah, where most reviews give higher points based on the fact that it is smaller and prettier than anything else. Mate, I read them all. Even in those reviews they state that iPods lack the features of other players, yet give them higher points mainly on the cosmetics rather than function, because in their view that compensates. Fair enough. I can dig them up and post the links for you to see. Read in between the lines, don't just look at the final star rating. I don't care what people use to be honest. Refer to my corolla versus luxury car comparison example. Whatever makes you happy It's when people say blindly "Ipods are the best" that's when I step in. Maybe I am an obsessive compulsive techno geek. Perhaps that is where "I have a problem". I'm sorry, but I like to have fully featured products, whatever it is that I buy, I always prefer top of the range. Whether it is the car, the home stereo, TV, the laptop, the watch, the MP3 player... Hell anything I buy I read reviews religiously, like with the items above, before I buy them. I like to have a product with too many options than I most likely will ever need, rather than something povo featured. Why? Coz I like to have a choice. Yes I have a voice recorder, that I perhaps only used once. But I like to have a choice whether I will use it. Rather than one time have a need for one, and for it not to be there. I check out any competition and what is out there, and draw up a list of what features are more important to me than others. To me it is the techno sh|t in this case. To others like Callum, they weigh greater importance on how pretty it looks. Fair enough. But just coz something seems to sell a lot, doesn't mean it is the best! |

Yeah, but my IS is THE top of the range IS, with all options! My Soarer was a povo pack. Had I had a fully featured active soarer perhaps I'd have kept it, who knows |

| Dan please explain how something lacking a feature *that you dont even want* is a problem? Furthermore, here from memory is the rundown of the failings of other media players in the market when i bought my iPod *Interface not as user-friendly *Build quality inferior *PC software poor/buggy/not as user-friendly *Reliability questionable Therefore my decision to buy the Apple product had nothing to do with "fashion/looks" at all... Anyway im done arguing about this, just accept that what may be right for you is not right for everyone! |

| I love my I-Pod, and hate other brands I really dont want to enter this pointless argument, but it is superior in every way - battery life, interface, storage, quality, features etc. Any facts quoted pale in comparison to the complete package that is the Ipod I might build a shrine tonight. |

| Hahahahahaha @ Travis Daniel, you can just upgrade (or downgrade if you like iTunes that much) the firmware to enable drag and drop.. Although it will void your warranty with Apple. |

| Nice way to alter the facts Phil. You've combined all other individual Mp3 player's individual flaws together, and put it into one to make it look like ALL non-ipods have these flaws in each one. Of course these flaws are there across the board, in different individual players, but not all in every single one. You should work for ACA or TT mate I'm not saying there aren't any shockers out there, coz there certainly are. But let's just go through your list shall we: 1. Interface in mine is quite user friendly, see below 2. Build quality... on mine, no smudge marks or fingerprint marks like on ipod, made of hard, tough, matt metal case. No way you can break anything in it. Excellent build quality. 3. PC software buggy hey? How about, no PC software, just plug in USB and use it as a hard drive. Sorry chief, wrong again. 4.Reliability? Fark it has never ever frozen on me. Always starts up each time. No issues what so ever. Reliability excellent! I don't know what reviews you were looking at, obviously you didn't look at Cowon did you? Therefore your decision had perhaps something to do with lack of adequate research if not fashion/looks huh Phil? Travis, since you're going into details as well, let me compare my own Cowon against yours then to see if you are right: Battery life - When I was still catchin' a bus to work each day, I used it all the time. A total of over an hour and a half each day spent on the bus, plus my daily jog session for about half an hour to an hour. I only had to recharge it once a month, if not every 5 weeks. Let's do the calcs: 2.5 hours times 5, times 4 = very much 50 hours. Not including weekend use. Brochure stated 48 hours. Can yours consistently do that? No? Doh! One down, 4 to go. interface - how easy can it be. A 4 way + push joystick to navigate playlist, back button, and play button. Oh and power/hold button. Interface quite easy to use. NEVER freezes, instant response. Browsing is a piece of piss. Can't see how much easier mine can be. storage - I bought mine in late 2005. Back then the 60 gig version wasn't available in Oz yet, so I only got a 30 gig. Not exactly up to date as to where the storage is at the moment with them, probably way more than 60 gig, can double check that in a sec. quality - well, as above, if you compare them side to side, my Cowon will never get scratched, never get fingerprints, smudges etc. ALl built solid, of hard black matt metal case. It's excellent. Whoops, here's another one Trav features - ummm, we already established that ipod is poor on features Trav. Don't blindly throw stuff like that in the open hoping for the best. I therefore cannot see how your ipod is more superior in every way? Perhaps storage, I give you that. The rest you really are dreaming. As you can see, I have brought you down to earth a little bit with the above facts didnd't I guys? Hhahaha. |

Hahaha I have no idea. I only have my 60GB video iPod because I got it for free from a mate. It's all scratched and stuff 'cause I really couldn't give a toss about it. The software is called Rockbox for those who are interested, but try it at your own risk. Only good thing about it is that I can watch videos on the 2 hour trip on the train to and from work each day. I will admit though that it has it's flaws - feature wise - but it is extremely handy as a spare HDD whenever I need to transfer large files around. Should be the same case with most other MP3 players out there today as well though. I also purchased an iPod adapter kit for my Alpine DVD head unit, so browsing songs through songs via my touchscreen is a bonus for me. The good thing about iPods are that they have become so popular, companies have cashed in on the fad and created adapters/programs/accessories for it whilst other MP3 players miss out. That's most likely one of the area's you missed out on in your speech up there Daniel , but apart from that I completely agree with you. If you think your iPod is the best thing in the world, then you are entitled to that opinion. I say you should just let it go Daniel mate and have a beer It's the beginning of the weekend FFS! |
