Hey,

So i took my car through the pits on Tuesday and they passed me for everything but one thing, the rear window being too tinted. I was angry because apparently is was passed for the previous owner (though i saw no paperwork for it). So I originally made bookings for the tint to be stripped and a re-test at Dickson. After talking to heaps of people everyone reckons i can get it passed at Lanyon Service Centre.

So i'm booked in for there tomorrow morning, i just don't know if they keep on record that it was failed the first time??

If i fail tomorrow i have no more days left to get it registered in my name will charged late fees because my 14 days are up...

So questions:
1) Will i get failed at Lanyon?
2) How do i get the tint off for a re-test if i do get failed at Lanyon... The tint guy i cancelled on is booked up until wednesday next week...

Depending on the garage I'd say you could expect reasonable leniency, I had my soarer passed with, 3 grand of suspension work needed and no high beams / fog lights...on the basis that I was getting the majority of the parts / work done at their garage.

Also as far as I know if you show a document to the shopfront saying you took it over the pits and it was failed you don't get late fees, you just need something to prove you took it in and are getting the work done.

You could try ultimate tunes in phillip the guys down there were very helpful when I dealt with them.

Charmaine,

How tinted is your rear window from the legal limit? I had the same issue, and I took the risk and went for a re-inspection.. somewhere else other than the Dickson Pits.. and passed.

Edited. I retract my earlier comment after reading this link

Probably not a good idea to try and remove the tint yourself, as you can destroy the heater and aerial tracks on the rear glass. :-(

Um, rear window??? I drive a van with NO rear window at all. Get a rule check, in NSW you can have NO rear window, so too much tint is a joke!

Man, that sucks - you would think they would be consistent on these things!

I ended up taking the tinting off for $100 :-( And i took the car to Lanyon today where it was passed. So all is sorted but i am tintless which makes me sad.

Anyone know of any good and cheap tinting places??
