For those interested:
I've planned out a route with long sweeping bends and awesome scenery, and here's how it shall pan out:
Leaving the service stations near Calder Park, we head north on the Calder Fwy until we hook a right around Gisborne South. We'll wind up somewhere just north of Sunbury, where we'll head off towards Romsey. By the time we get there, we'll have travelled about 50km - stop for a leak if you need it, otherwise we keep going.
After cruising through Romsey and giving the public a little something to look at, we head further north to Lancefield, and on to Newham and around Hanging Rock. We cross the Calder at Woodend, and head on to Tylden, where we hit an awesome road leading through Trentham, Lyonville, Bullarto and Musk. Then we arrive in Daylesford for a 12:30pm lunch stop, having travelled approximately 130km.
Food options in Daylesford include counter meals at the pub, fish and chips, bakeries... standard small touristy country town fare. You'll see a lot of strange people... Daylesford is swamped with hippies and gay people.
After a feed we'll regroup and take the road that leads you to Ballarat. It's the wrong direction, but man it's fun. There's a road we can take that puts us back on the map, and heading around the back of Hepburn Springs and on to Newstead. At Newstead we turn right on the Pyrenees Highway and head for Castlemaine (Castlemaine, not "Carstlemaine)... if you feel like a beer we can pull over at one of the pubs and enjoy a nice cold frothy. If you've had enough by then, Melbourne is a bit over an hour down the Calder.
I'll be camping overnight with my girlfriend's dad in Fawkner, just for something to do. We'll be going back through Lancefield and on to Kilmore, so if you're a northern suburbs person or you just want to come for the drive, tag along.
I'm going to do a test run to determine fuel consumption and to see if any roads need to be swapped for different ones. I've never done this run in a car, only on a bike, so I don't know how the Soarer is going to take a couple of the roads - a few are a little bumpy in sections.
Now all we need is a posse! |

Depends what you want to do. If you want to part company at Castlemaine, I'd say you'll be on the Calder near the Bell St exit around 3:30pm. 4pm at the latest.

I just got new shocks/bushes all around and am dying to test them out on the windy roads however... My gearbox has decided that my fun with 22psi on stock clutch packs must end lol.

Hopefully we don't have anyone else bail... I don't really want to do a cruise with only 5 or so cars, hardly seems worth it. Unless we can spark a bit more interest, I might have to postpone it... unless it's really worth it, why bother? I have a gig on that night and it's going to be a long day. |
