Hey guys sorry this probably doesn’t belong here but yeah its the only SA section. Just got my second defect in a week . First one was for rear tyres which was bullshit but i cleared it 3 days ago. Anyway i just got done for having 18 inch rims. Cops said standard is 15inches so that 17's are the max. Now im desperate to borrow any rims that are 15-17inches off anyone thats kind enough to help me out, or selling some stockies for cheap. Any rims with fat tyres say around 55 just to raise the car up slight would be great. Cops said that the centre of the rim to the wheel arch is too low so it needs to go to regency. Im just so pissed off, saw the RBT on the other side of the road and when coming back the other way i was thinking there was nothing defectable with the car so i didnt avoid the RBT. Im an idiot and its gonna cost me $150 plus my time which just boils my blood. Sorry about the rant guys, if anyone can help me out that would be heaps nice of them.
Dave, when did you want to borrow them? I have stock rims on mine, we could do a swap (short term of course!) while you go through Regency. Just depends when you want to do it.

Thanks for the offers guys, has restored my faith in humanity haha. Ill see about swapping rims Brenton, i might get a tyre placard made up first and argue the point that 18's are legal (that defect is only a police station check with no fee attached). As for the regency inspection im probably have to look for anyone that has stock suspension laying around as my coil over will get pickup. Spoke to a few of the guys at my local tyre place and they also said that they are 16's standard even ringing another Soarer driver at Fisher performance to check. So Brenton ill let you know mate. Im still gonna re-measure the centre of the rims to the wheel arch as i think they didnt measure from the highest point in the arch. Oh Brenton what sort of tyre have you got on the stock rims mate, are they roadworthy and are they quite height as in 4 x 4 height spec as that could solve both my problems at once haha. Really gonna try an not have to go to regency just to save my head aches and money which I don’t have. Unfortunately this could have been all avoided if I had gone around the block and now im kicking myself for not doing so. Thanks again guys, if anyone can help me out with stock suspension that would be great and any other offers of help would be appreciated.

David, no matter what wheel you put on, the distance from the centre to the wheel arch will remain the same.
A couple of years ago I spoke with a wheel shop about the 2" rule, they said that as long as the overall diameter was within spec, it didn't actually matter what size the wheel is.
I might have been sales talk, but it sounded reasonable at the time.

Yeah Peter i know that, they usually use 2' inch rule when they dont know what they are on about but the real rule is if the rolling diamter is unchanged then the size is not relevant. As for the distance the cop didnt measure it properly and only one wheel is out by about by 1mm whilst he said they are out heaps. What can i do, its happened and im not too pleased about the whole situation

the distance from the centre to the wheel arch ?? Won't this depend on the current weight of the car, and whether it's in it's high/low position etc? how can it be 1mm out... If you have a large person sitting in the car then it will be slightly lower wouldn't it?? Stupid cops.. Or maybe i'm just being stupid again..

David has a turbo, hence no height adjustment. Apparently they say that it shouldn't go below 100mm with a full load in the car and even luggage in the boot, I got done for being too low, (Regency Park job) and yet I have a stock GT LTD, then after going to my local Station I said to the traffic cop, Measure your 'mud flaps on that patrol car and he did, the rear flaps were 90mm from the bitumen, then he cleared it then and there. Told me that the bike cop that defected me is well known for pulling over any nice car with a set of wheels on it.

As Danny has said i have a turbo and coilovers so they are adjusted with a c-spanner and can’t be adjusted within the cabin. The defect was for the 18's been to big (ill have a go at the cops at Norwood tomorrow) and the second defect was the eyebrow high. This is not the 100mm rule, as that is the rule for the lowest point of the car. The rule I got done for is from memory that there must be 2/3's travel left in the suspension at any given high. Anyway they measured it like a tradesman would do and therefore not very accurately. When i check all 4 corners only the left rear was slightly out by a few mm. Now i had a go at the cops saying that my car is a 1991 and there book was for Soarers 92+ and the 20 model 86-88 so i argued how they could tell me what the correct measurement needed to be when they dont have it in the book. Anyway the wanker said because the car was imported in 2002 then they base it on that year which is utterly stupid as that’s not the manufacture year of the car (they go on the year of manufacture). From what they want me to do i have to get the fronts to be 360mm and the rears 340mm. So this measurement is the distance between the center of the rim to the lip of the wheel arch. Im gonna argue my point at the copshop as well as there is no way im gonna pay $150 for regency, plus i dont want them to find my coilovers
