| Got defected on saturday night at about 2am on park tce. As I had finished the breathalyzer test cop asked whether my car was turbo, me being honest I said Yes, the instantly told me they need to inspect my car. Fair enough. They did my for exhaust system, Pod air filter and Boost gauge on A-Pilar. All of which I know is non ADR compliant and thus illegal when I fitted them. The only problem I have is that the cop didnt really know anything about cars: 1. On the defect notice it says my car is a Supra. 2. According to this fella by removing the mufflers on a turbocharged car and replacing them with cannons ect you change the Turbo chargers gear ratio and thus emits 1000000% more carbon emissions. The constable kept repeating about the gear ratio's on the turbo's, last time I checked my CT12A's dont have 1st,2nd and 3rd..... I think he may have been meaning that the car is now boosted and more fuel is being used thus more emissions. 3. Pod filter- He didnt say anything about it being fitted, just that it wasnt secured well enough. 4. gauges on the A pillar....speaks for itself. Im not bitter that I have to fix these things, thats not an issue, I have stock air box, stock mufflers and will remove the gauges when I go through regency. Im bitter because I was pegged as trouble because I have a Turbo. And that the officer in question did not know an awful lot about cars. |

| My first thought would be that if he's incorrectly filled out the defect notice, calling the car a Supra, it may not be valid. I'd seek legal advice on that one. |

| This is why I spent the weekend in the hills. Stupid cops. They always go to town on import cars, lets just say I'm lucky that I have a V8. I don't seem to get bothered as much. |

| Why are you upset? Cops know that turbo cars are way more often the subject of illegal modification. Like yours. Their targetting paid dividends, the removal of a defective car from the roads. |

Not upset mate, I knew the mods I did were illegal. I got off pretty lightly and am quite thankful for that. The officer in question was pleasant and I did not give him a hard time to any lip. My sister and her friend were also in the car giving the cop a lot of flak which he took with a grain of salt and did not take it out on either me or my car. As I stated before its not the defect im upset about its the fact that the feller doing it didnt know a whole lot about cars and he didnt even check to see what type of car it was |

| Sounds exactly how i got defected! Pulled over, passed bretho, asked if it was turbo, i said yes its actually got 2! park your car over there son thanks very much Defected for too loud (car was off) Defected for too low (didnt measure it) asked me if i had a BOV, i said yes, they asked me to show them i did, the stock ones, they didnt believe me that turbo cars come from the factory with a BOV, they then asked what they actually did (WTF?) and i explained and he actually seemed pretty enlightened One cop just sat in my car and started ranting about how my brake pedal went too far down, i said the brakes in the car are excellent and would probably out brake their patrol cars, he wanted to drive my car and test it to which i said absolutely not, so he just defected me for all the other for what its worth, i changed nothing to do with the brakes and when it went through regency it was almost 100% perfect on their brake test thingy SA cops should spend more time targeting DUI than defecting, countless people i know Drink drive everywhere and never get caught |

| i agree with Brenton, the fine should be invalid since there is a wrong model name----which means an inconsistency on the fine. a reasonable doubt is sufficient to invalid the fine. |

See what a magistrate says. I think it will end in "and the prosecutor's costs".

Get over it, it's not his passion. He did the required training at work to spot an illegally modified car and it worked. I see absolutely nothing wrong with anything the cop did. |

| Clearly Miles you have never been defected for a stock vehicle, My wife and I got defected in a ford laser 2000 model, stock, and factory standard. GOT DONE FOR ILLEGAL WINDOW TINT. FACTORY STANDARD FROM FORD. My dad's friend is 60 years old, has just bought a brand new FPV Pursuit and it's sweet, Yep he got done for being too low. My Soarer got done for too low, stock height and just a vertex kit. When the cop defected me he measured the car with a boot load of stuff and 3 adults in the car on an uneven ground, and he wrote on the notice "CUT SPRINGS".... Obviously I was Pssssssd so I went to the police station and made a complaint against the officer in question. They sent a traffic control officer out to see my car, it was cleared instantly. I know i'm ranting but these patrol officers do not have the correct training and should not have the authority to go around and take cars off the road when all care has been taken to maintain it at the highest level and the safest |

| lol, sounds a bit like one of my mates that was done for having a front facing bonnet scoop... on a WRX!!! If there is something genuinely wrong with my car then I'll cop it sweet, but if they are just going to make sh1t up such as factory tint being to dark, or the turbo gear ratio (which I'm still amazed happened!), that is where the line is drawn. |

Well since the subject of this thread is a modified car, I am wondering why you are bringing up your Laser and having a go at me about it. Getting defected for a stock car is wrong but we weren't talking about that were we? Take you bitterness to a thread it applies to. |

| interesting read. I think its happened to most of us unfortunately. I got done a while ago for "Undue Noise" for my exhaust. I was pretty annoyed cos i was not even giving it a bootfull AND it was my OLD exhaust which was pretty quiet actually ! Anyways it was a rough $240 fine and i lost 3 points... i was bloody spewing, that is like the same punishment as running a red light ! I kinda wish he had defected me for my exhaust as i would have been able to clear it easy and it would not have cost me soo much. It is just the name of the game unfortunately boys and girls... drive a nice car.. become a target... |

I offer a bet that there are more Skyline crashes per thousand Skylines than Soarer crashes per thousand Soarers, and similarly the rate of Soarer crashes by vehicle count is higher for 1JZ (i.e. TT) than for 2J or 1UZ cars. |
