Hey guys, as some of you know... I got yellow stickered for not having correct mounts on my exhaust. Yesterday when I put it up on the hoist at my mates workshop, saw that my mufflers had cracked where the pipes join to them (due to not having hangers)

From what I can see, the previous owner, removed that X bit, then put a aftermarket Cat in which my mate said was good, from then on, its str8 pipes to the mufflers.

So now I need to change from just after the cat.
wondering is there anything thats recommended and isnt too expensive lol

thanx

Sam, are you saying that your exhaust has 3 cats on it now ?? Im not familiar with the V8 soarer exhaust but 90% of V8's i've seen have a cat for each side of the exhaust connected where the headers finish then afterwards go into the cross pipe. The cross pipe serves a big purpose with air flow, noise and balancing out back pressure, removing it and putting a 3rd cat there is the last thing I would do as your taking out an important part of the exhaust and adding more restriction so I dont know where your mate got the idea that its "good" ??

Anyways, I've always used mettams mufflers in morley or belmont, the owner (morley) is a master of his craft and doesn't charge through the nose. I have sent quite a few of my friends there and people from work and I haven't had anyone come back and bite my head off yet :-)

Personally Sam, if it were my car I would be replacing the whole exhaust simply because those hanger brackets aren't just for holding the exhaust up but also to keep it straight and safe from twisting, bending etc etc judging by the fact the welding seams have split on the mufflers then my guess would be that the rest of the exhaust is out of shape and will just start cracking and splitting in places you dont want it to. Replace the exhaust from the cat back so you dont have any more future dramas.

Hope this has been a help :-)

+1 I used Mettams in Belmont. They fit my rear mufflers, which involved bending new pipes in the back and shaping cut outs in my bumper. Took four hours and price was $100!!! Highly recommended.
