I have a small amount of experience with traffic cops, not going to say how - I just do. They are generally viewed as the outsiders in the force with general duty coppers giving them heaps, unfortunately most dont have a say what their posting will be.

I'll get in contact with my mate and find out .. he might just be able to give us car details .. what day and time did it happen ..

This is usually the second port of call after witness contact by the investigating officer, but if there were no injuries or immidiate charges laid it will not be acted upon - instigating driver cannot be ID'd via cam.

Wow. This is a truly saddening story. Adam, you just HAVE to lodge a complaint with the police department. Demand a written apology from the traffic cop in question, for basically causing you undue stress while you were, in all likelihood, in shock after the accident. And essentially calling you a liar when he threatened you with charges.

http://police.wa.gov.au/Aboutus/Complaints/tabid/1051/Default.aspx

Seriously dude, don't stand for it. Get a complaint and investigation recorded against this dickhead officer.

Miles is a smart man, ALL police associations and events are logged, they pull your rego, then registered owner and then pull you over based on the records accrued. It is SSOOOO much better not to have a history than start one yourself.

Sorry to sound like a prick Adam but get your insurance, thank god your not hurt, then start the wonderful hunt for a new Soarer and part her out.

Yeh fair enough that makes sense. On a side note my mate had his v8 soarer written off yesterday too. Some old lady driving a beemer sideswiped him, he subsequently spun out, mounted a kerb and took out a bus stop sign...at least she stopped though.

As much as i was offended and disappointed at the attitude of the traffic cop i wont be taking the issue any further. There are far more important things i need to sort out right now.

Doran, you're not a prick, you're right :-)

I just feel bad for all the hours of work the previous owner, Tai, has put into building this car, that some prick has ruined our modification efforts.

Well, I understand why you don't want to take it further. And I understand why most people are afraid of pissing off the cops.

But I'm from a police family. I know what they're like. They forged my signature on a fictional statement once, and I just copped a bullshit fine and shut up. Biggest regret of my life. I won't ever again take their crap if they treat me unjustly.

I have to decide whether it gets repaired or broken down. Obviously if its repaired it will be simply stunning and by far the best v8 in Perth. Then it will be up for sale. I want something else for the time being.

Building it back up will keep:
IM240 test accreditation $2800
Engineers certificate $330
Engineer Inspections + mod plate $100
Registration 6 months $300

If i break it down, it'll be a painful process but i will get more for parts than it being sold as a complete car.

Can't you go to your MP or something? If its an anonymous complaint through an elected member, you should be OK?

Who is your insurer, Adam?

Parting out a car as you are probably aware can be a hard and long process.
Repairing and building it back up will always leave you with a car that has had a major accident history, bringing with it all the negatives of an event.

If you can get a decent enough wadd of cash from your insurer for writing it off and giving it to a wrecker you may be better off?

Im with Shannons.
Having it written off will depend on the cost of replacement parts.

Luckily for me i just had everything approved, mod plate, everything.

Oh cool.
I think if Shannons write it off you can buy the wreck back off them if you wanted to?

if there is major chassis damage, id recommend just letting the car go. mate of mine spun out like you and had a front end smash, cars never felt as tight as it used to. but its up to you.

Chassis re-alignment costs big $$$$ and is never 100%. Buy the wreck back, rip everything out and find another soarer to put it all in or sell it it.
