Hey, I know Tilly was interested, and I am,

so I've decided Im going to get some vinyls laser cut and made.

Im thinking silver, (chrome look) in old english text

I need some good ideas for the text

I want to use words from the Latin language, so I will be getting a guy at work who has done 8 years study on latin (lol) to translate for me for the stickers,

The font will be something like this

feel free to give me some ideas, then I will get a quote from bokay print.

let me knowww

The sticker im planning to make will be about the length of the rear window, and probably 200 - 250 mm high.

I do this for work.
Text will work but the paint splatter effect wont.

Vinyl cutting works on vectors

Yes, I will use vectors.

Its a font, therefore vector.

Im a graphic designer, nothing new to me :-)

As for the splatter, if you have a good graph-tech vinyl cutter it will cut almost anything, you just need to spend time weeding it.

So yeah, the splatter will work.

Soar – the closest translation is “flying swiftly” and the word is VOLATILIS

I don’t think there’s a word for “cruise” in Latin. Obviously being an ancient language there are things in the modern day that didn’t exist in the ancient world and cruise would be one of them.

Beauty – there are 3 forms of the word – masculine, feminine and neuter.
Pulcher(m), (pronounced pull-ker) means handsome,
Pulchra(f) (pull-kra) means beautiful,
pulchrum(n) (pull-krum) means fine.

Hmmmm Volatilis sounds good :-)

That'd look dope on a silver sticker in old english text hey ;)

ehhhh, i dunno how to read it, is that a B to begin with,

also just realised before reading the rest of the post its V lol

my 2 cents im happy with soarer central. it would also maybe bring other soarer owners who dont know about forums to the website?

another suggestion... would about the front windscreens? as im usually passing a soarer instead getting caught up behind one?

i still like the idea. just throwing some suggestions out there! haha!

Yeah you can cut the vinyl out that small for the splatter effect, but it won't stay stuck down for very long and to be honest it will look like ass. If you must have that effect you'd be better cutting a stencil and airbrushing it on. I got one of them Chinese ones here next to me. Even it will cut out some really tiny stuff but the main factor is the quality of the vinyl you use.

I've never heard of a cutter that uses a laser?

And volatilis means swift or fast, more in the sense of fleeting or transitory. Think of the word volatile in the chemical sense. One false move and it vanishes.

Ty, its a V. lol.

Not a b, may look like one but its actually a v.

And miles, meant laser sharpened.

The blades we have here are awesome, laser sharpened. However I think most are. I decided to go against the splatter effect anyway, it would come off almost instantly when washing.

And it can be done on front or back doesnt matter.

the volatilis is my personal choice of words, you can have your own. lol

And the idea was not necessarily to recruit other soarer drivers, but to simply add something to my car, I'm not big on advertising things on my personal car - that's why no other stickers are on it.

Plus it adds the question "what does that mean"

I think it fits with the car

# volatilis wuged, flying, swift, rapid, fleeting, transitory

fleeting
passing swiftly; vanishing quickly; transient; transitory: fleeting beauty; a fleeting glance.

fleet
swift; rapid: to be fleet of foot; a fleet horse.

I doubt you need definitions for Swift, Rapid.

Not really referring to the Transitory side of the word, but more the swiftness side.

Throbmaster 5000 is also good, very creative. Gold star sticker for you, sir.

Yeah will if you wanna have the wrong word on your car, go nuts. Focusing on one translation and changing the meaning is not translating. It's the same as getting one of those asian tattoos and having the wrong meaning.

"It means dexterous, good with my hands".. no, it translates to "wanker, pulls his dick a lot".

Volatilis does not mean your car is fast. It means it's unreliable.

To me it seems really ghetto to have a big sticker like that on the back window, but maybe its different in Aussie.

Over here if you are driving through South Auckland (gang country) you will see loads of clapped out Mitsi's and Nissans with cut springs and huge chromies full of homies with these kinds of stickers announcing their affiliation, or declaring "RIP some guy who died at 17 from a gang beating, but its OK 'cause we totally popped a cap in their arses later on" or whatever.

Funny comment about the JZZ31 - I recon my '31's probably quite a bit quicker off the mark than the majority of '91 V8's around Auckland/Hamilton these days, so many of them probably haven't seen a new spark plug or an oil change in years.

Ew god, that has to be the most revolting thing I have ever seen.

Your basically giving Soarer Central a ghetto image to the public.

Car slicker logo things are pathetic anyway, get a Subaru WRX for that kinda of crap.

Wow, you really are out to lunch. ....actually on second thoughts, your have made your car ghetto with the range of tacky modifications, so one of these vinyls would be quite fitting to get maximum police attention.

Quite so, the V8's have always been quicker, but now days with them being treated like junk they must be loosing their edge every month. I found my JZZ31 was best down low, but up top it was embarrassing. A perfect daily driver for your situation though Matt, If I could find a decent priced accordingly I would get one.

I dont' think his car is tacky at all, in fact i think he's got a really nice body kit but hey to each his own. I reckon the soarer central logo would look a bit better kris but if you're set on having somethin latin might i suggest virtus per exquisitus which roughly translates to power with class

I like the idea... especially Daniel's version "virtus per exquisitus" Power With Class!

Looks great in Edwardian Script ITC Font. Try it on Word at 60 font size.

Keep it up Kris, afterall the mods we do to our babies is all about Personilization. If someone doesn't like what I do to mine, then they can buy the car off me for what I'm willing to sell it to them }for and THEN they can undo what I have done. Until then, they should just shut the ..... up.

Other peoples pinions are great, they might highlight something I missed or didn't think of, it just me when some people expect you to change your mind just because it is what they think.

Well, that's my 2 cents worth... Keep us informed with how you get along with the vinyls mate.

Personally I agree. Big stickers look retarded. But then the dude is only like 19 years old.

Remember when it used to be cool to have Oakley stickers across your windscreen? Thermonuclear Protection? And then all those stupid Nismo and Mugen and TRD stickers came out. Now I guess it's stupid other language tattoo crap on the car.

Well for those who like the idea.. Kristian is doin them a favour by making these up for them. This topic wasnt a "tell me if you hate stickers" thread.. So kris take note of the relevant comments and disregard the pointless ones. Keep brain storming.
