This guy is THE BEST engineer in Adelaide. But you may need to prompt him as he talks very s-l-o-w-l-y(he is just thinking). He used to engineer jap imports for me back in the day and he does an awesome job - engineered a 500hp rx7 for me and an rx4 that was off the hook. He is amazing! I saw an evo he engineered that was stoopid crazy modified.

Hybrids - should not need to be done exhaust might?? but hybrids wont put out any different gasses than standard turbos. Should not need cert. Unless you have no heat shrouds ect. What about strut braces, shake and bake mirrors, big wheels? any thing not factory fitted?

I have had him do engineering certs for the following things:
Side intrusion bars into jap cars fuel filler necks into jap cars ADR approved mirrors into jap cars certs for factory sun visors in s13's Engineering cert for t88 high mount on rx7(stoopid expensive and major fab work required) Cert for coilovers in 180sx
Things you need cert's for are normally major changes.

Doug can have a look at your car and he will let you know if there is anything, Having said that you will need to put your car through regency to have it approved and they may get you for other things.

Doug will probably want to run it through regency to have it approved by transport SA. You may need some engineering certificates to pass, but they may ping you on other things. A mate of mine has a Cortina with an sr20T in it all regency approved, It needed a few engineering certificates and a regency inspection and now it's regency approved. If you just want the certificates that's a different story but they don't mean squat until they are approved by regency park(transport SA). You can modify your car all you like but when you do get pulled up these steps need to be taken if you want to keep your mods. Transport SA are not that hard to deal with but other states are definately easier. I have had more cars through regency than you can poke a stick at when I was importing jap cars.

I think what I'm trying to say is that a cop won't give a rats if you have an engineering cert. He will defect you anyway. You have to be regency approved to be bulletproof. Even then it's iffy because I guy my missus work with at autobarn almost got defected by a cop in Mt Barker in a fully engineered 1jz powered hilux 4wd. It had only been regency approved two weeks earlier.

Rory Thompson does A LOT of imports.
I personally wouldnt bother with it until you get defected as it can work out quite pricey. Was thinking of getting a NSW engineering certificate which can be had for hell cheap but looks majorly dodgey compared to a full SA report. I mainly wanted a NSW as its cheap and i would try my luck convincing a cop that all is sweet.
Realistically though its all about making it look stock, matte black paint is your friend plus your imagination to hide things. With that winning combo you can pretty much getaway with anything bar a high mount turbo.
