This may be a bit out of date, but being a P-Plater myself with a V8 Soarer and with friends that have WRX's and GTS-t's i can see why you think these things.
There are a lot of drivers out there (including p-platers) that speed and crash. Take for instance when going along Kwinana freeway. how many people do you see speeding there? 90 percent of people there are doing 110+ in a 100 zone, most of which AREN'T P-Platers. You can say that "Oh it's just 10km/h", But that 10km/h can determine you going up some's backside because you couln't stop in time.
However back to the P-Plater argument, i'm afraid i have to agree. i have seen mates who are on their p's driving 4cyl cars and write them of because they just go stupid with them. They then buy v6 commodores and fly around town. It's not on. And also to the point of where they show off, I have had the urge a hundred times, to floor it and get the appreciated hoots and whistles. but there is a line. You can simply reject the temptation to scream down a street or to spin the wheels in a suburban area. We've all had the temptation, and anyone who doesn't admit to this is a coward haha.
The bottom line is we should ALL get driver training. Because there have been new road laws taken into affect and majority of older drivers; say 30yrs plus, don't know most of the road rules. Rules as simple as merging-Hardly anyone merges properly, and tail gating-a lot of people do it. We should all take responsibility for our actions. It won't be long before some crazy git introduces a max speed limit of 100km/h, more speed cameras(because they save lives and aren't a money revenue- according to the government), And bans on turbo's, superchargers, etc. Who wants that!? I'm sick of my status as a P-Plate driver being criticised because of some idiotic guy who likes to show off and kill himself, or herself.

The 10km+ thing always makes me laugh... people usually do it because anything over the extra 10kmh is too much of a fine to pay, but getting done for doing say 5 - 9kmh over the limit is worth it because it's what.. still $50 and no points or has it changed ?? I don't know (knocks wood) cause I haven't had speeding fine in years.
I can't say i've had the temptation to fang it or drop skids down suburban roads because these day's %99 of people that see it just think your an idiot and I gotta ask, in your mind shaydan, what is the line ??? The law say's that a mere chirp of the wheels is breaking the law which in my mind is "crossing the line" but at the end of the day EVERY single driver on the road crosses the line, it just depends on what yourself or they let themselves do, ranging from hooning, skids.. to drink driving or even idiots sitting in the right hand lane not doing the speed limit or people who don't indicate when changing lanes (this one gets me raging)
It's proven time and time again that speed cameras DO NOT save lives. They are merely a revenue raising tool... the government can deny it all they want but they just make themselves look stupid by doing it. Speed cameras aren't used in American or Europe any more because they both admit... they don't work. I don't think they will ever go as far as banning turbo or V8 cars (not for a long time anyway) but I think that P-Platers should not be allowed to drive them, it should be something earned over time.
This debate could go on forever but the truth is, no matter how much we complain, no matter how many petitions get set up and signed, no matter how many people die on the roads... I can't see things changing. The cameras work well for the government, not for saving lives, but for their bank account and while the more people are speeding, getting fined, the more reason they have to NOT ban them. They couldn't give a toss if you die on the road, they will just turn around and say it was the drivers fault.

Well said Ben. I didn't mean temptation as in doing skids. I haven't tried in my Soarer.
The line is what most of us consider stupid. I.E. Excessive speeding, Burnouts, and just doing idiotic things in general with a car. There are people who unfortunately do ruin it for p-platers by drink driving and showing off by street racing. Also the line is where to say NO. "don't be a pussy, give it to her". all i replied to that was "no". I knew that this would just be stupid.
And still zero dollars out of pocket is better than 75 (up to 9km/h over speed limit). I admit though, that i am no saint. i have to say i get aggravated by non indicating drivers, Tailgaters, i have gone over the limit. But i respect the outcome of what could happen if i do break the law. For me, i can't wait to get my car suitable for track use so i can go to high speeds at my own risk.

The private property thing is a massive grey area... most shopping centres and industrial properties are considered privately owned but if you drop a skid, the cops can and will book you. It doesn't matter if you own big property and do it, a guy at work said his younger brother was doing burnouts on his property (big farm property out of geraldton, the neighbours got sick of the noise and smoke, then recorded him doing it and dobbed him and and it held up in court. He argued "I was on my own private property" and they said "yes you were, but are you and your property properly licensed for these actions ???" NOPE... bye bye license and car.

I was parked in a gravel carpark a couple of years back and when I got back to the car there where huge doughnut tracks all over the carpark and huge stone chips all up the side of my car. Asshats.

buying in...
you will find that car parks may be privately owned, but are public space. When you are banned from driving, read the fine print at the bottom. It'll say something like "...not drive on roads and public road like surfaces such as car parks..."
Now if you own your property and are inside the boundary of said property then RTA/MVR/DMR road rules do not apply. (if however you are allowing members of the public to use your property then different laws apply again and it may be considered 'public space'). The example back in the thread of ole matey being done on his property will not have been prosecuted under the relevant state traffic act but under some other section of law, likely creating disturbance, or as hinted violation of a licencing law.
