So after having my new zorst fitted, the in-cabin heat issue is becoming unbearable.
Obviously the new pipe does not comfortably accommodate the factory heat shields so they're removed, and a lot of after-market zorsts/cats/headers are not fitted with heat shields or thermal coating of their own. The hot air pours into the car after about 30 mins of driving from up behind the pedals in the footwell. If I'm wearing thongs while driving it actually becomes dangerous because my feet slip off the pedals.

So..one option I have is to source heat shielding material and have it molded/fitted to the zorst/cat/firewall. Seems simple enough, however I've phoned a few zorst places and they're not interested or won't fit custom heat shields. So then what kind of business actually does this work?

The other option would be to have the entire zorst ceramic coated (which from what I've read is very effective in solving this problem). So my questions are:

1. Where in Perth do I go for ceramic coating?
2. What kind of price am I looking at here?
3. Is it worth pursuing the custom heat shield option and if so, where in Perth do I go to get this job done?
4. Is there another solution that's staring me in the face?

I believe you can buy that mouldable heat reflective insulation they use on the XR6T and do it yourself, but it is expensive.

There would have to be a procoat or similar business over there as you have a decent motorsport scene.

Maybe you can wrap the front pipe with heat wrap? It's pretty inexpensive and would be worth a shot :-)

Go to the white pages, type in "Ceramic Coaters" and a few places in perth should pop up.

Austen - thanks for the idea. Hadn't considered that. Could that be done from home or would the zorst need to actually be removed?

Ben - tried that, there's only one listed, in Anketell. Might buzz them and get a quote.

Thanks chaps :-)

You should be able to do it at home no worries. It sounds like you're feeling the heat from the front pipe and this is accessible from the engine bay. No need to drop the exhaust.

At the very most you'll have to jack the car up and throw it on stands but see how you go.

Search for powder coaters, they are the ones who will usually do ceramic coatings. Some will be equipped for it and others wont be but at least they'll be able to point in the right direction. That does mean it'll have to come off the car though, possibly self removal.
