This Sunday, 22nd January there is an all day street meet at Eastern Creek, WSID. I have not raced my car for a very long time and me and a handful of friends have decided to go down and see what our cars can muster down the 1/4 mile.

For those who don't know what is needed to participate this Sunday, all you need to race is a drivers licence, wear long pants and long shirt and a helmet, and it is only $50 to race all day and thats it.

It will be good to see some Soarers down there, to have a chat and see how everyone performs.

Here sis the link to the WSID Website which gives you all the info needed for this Sunday.

http://www.wsid.com.au/?m=events&a=event_page&id=123

Racing begins at 11am and goes to 5pm, and judging by other Sunday Street meets you can get many runs in. I have seen cars run 10 times on a Sunday Meet.

The cars confirmed to go so far are:

Me (Manny) - 95 Toyota Soarer (2JZ Swap, Auto, Stock Turbos, Tuned - 250RWKW+)

Raumin - 91 Toyota Soarer (1JZ, Stock Turbos, 440cc injectors, Emanage Ultimate Tuned - 240RWKW +)

John - 04 Holden Comm SS *VZ* (LS1, Auto, CAPA Supercharger Kit with Intercooler, Full exhaust, VCM Suite Tuned - 300RWKW+)

Faroon - Toyota Supra "SLO2JZ" (Fully Built 2JZ, T04Z Single Turbo, heaps of Mods, 6 speed manual - 400RWKW

Paden - My Mechanic :-) - Nissan Skyline R34 GT-T, Single Turbo GT35R, Power FC, Big Injectors, , 300RWKW+ Manual)

Should be interesting to see what all the cars get above.

Add your name and I will add you to the list below.

Manny - Soarer (2JZ)
Raumin - Soarer (1JZ)
John - VZ SS (LS1 S/C)
Faroon - Supra (2JZ, TO4Z)
Paden - R34 GTT (RB25, GT35R)

Hope to see you there.

I would like to see what the RX7 can do on the quarter, getting a tow vehicle and car trailer organised in time will be a long shot though!

I would not of thought that Sydney would be any different to Willowbank. I have run in a sactioned meet before and the andra licence for the day was only $5.

Andra have changed the rules for late model cars fitted with factory 4wheel discs and srs air bags, you can run a 10.5 with out needing to fit a roll cage or better seat belts and do not need to be andra licenced.

AFAIK WSID did not go ahead with this change so old rules still apply. I ran a 12.08 last week so couldnt be arsed going back just to be kicked out.

Hi Ken,

If you are thinking of modding your Soarer in the future it will be a good idea to get a stock time to compare later on when you do mods and see what difference it made to the performance. Thats what I did when I had the 1JZ.

Check this thread.

10.99 and your out due to cage , saftey gear , upgraded licence ...

11.99 if you dont have a Andra Super Street Licence , your out . There is no day pass , you need to pay up at WSID .

The 10.5 rule for late model cars wasnt brought in at WSID . It only applies to later than 2000 4w discs , airbags ...

Very impressed with the times you were running Manual.

If i do go it will be just for and giggles and catching up with a few soarer owners. The car is in pieces at the moment so i probably wont run again. So in saying that, i do appologise to those people who go and have a random person with no car talk to you, it will just be me!

No problem Ken, you are more than welcome to come down and chat. Ask Daniel Clarke, back a few years ago when I didnt even own a Soarer I went down to the drags and I was a random person just talking to the Soarer owners. lol
Its always nice to chat to some fellow Soarer owners regardless if you are racing or not. I hope to see you there. Weather permitting (praying!)

And very impressive time for a V8 Soarer which is stock. I have seen Stock Twin Turbo Soarers get similar times to your stock V8.

No problem Daniel, safety comes first for sure. I had a similar pass, one time. I was the 1st car out at the drags at 6pm (the very 1st when they opened). It felt like I was on ice. I spun hard in 1st 2nd & 3rd and was heading to the wall lol. Scary times. lol

Be good if you can come down Daniel. I will let you have some passes in mine if you want to get your fix.

Im the same. I am running Kumho KU36's 275/40 17s 1st to 2nd gear now with the extra torque of the 2J it will step out a tiny bit, but once in 2nd full traction from me. Gearbox is feeling a bit tired especially in 2nd. I am hoping it doesnt heat up too much and I get a decent time early on.

Daniel, seems that Willowbank is running its own agenda as far as street cars go, Sydney seems to be going strictly by ANDRA's rules.

Daniel, here is a link to Willowbanks requirements for road going street vehicles.

http://www.showticksecure.com/willowbank/VenueNet/_uploads/FCKeditor/file/pdfs/2011%202012%20season% 20info/2011%20-%20NEW%20STREET%20REGULATIONS%20AS%20AT%20011211.pdf

I think it attracts more people to have a go without being tied to ANDRA's regulations.

What do you think?

For sure Paul , Sydney needs to step up with the times .

Steven , they were Nangkang's back in the day , managed to 60' 1.8's on them , but also had some wicked times sideways due to no track prep .

Got some Falkens on now which i rate very poorly ( was told they would be better than my ku31's :-( ) ... Wont go there .

Yeah I can see track prep being an issue if its bad. On the street the car will spin coming on boost into 3rd when the tyres are cold but with almost cold tyres (burnout went straight into wheel hop, wasnt on the water, so I backed off straight away) it still gripped in 2nd. 2.2 60ft but thats standard for a supra :-)

Quite impressed considering the price of the KU36, theres nothing much apart from the federals that seems to come close. Apparently wet grip isnt great but ive driven (normally) plenty of times and havnt had any problems.

If I do go back later it will be with more power and drag radials to see if I can stick it into the 10's.

Manual, when are you taking the beast to the creek?
Im eager to see what time difference you gain with the 2J.

Its was shame it was raining last time!

Let us know when your going, I would like to go and take a look.

No problems Christian. I actually wanted to race tonight but once again the rain will cancel tonights event. I will definitely be racing very soon and will let you know.

The 2JZ has the potential definitely to get a better time than my 1JZ. It has more power but it does weigh around 60 kilos more than when I had the 1JZ.

I only got to drag race my car with the 2JZ once just after the conversion.

Ended up getting a
12.7@113mph with a 2.2 60 foot and the car was having gearbox trouble couldnt launch it at all.

My best in the 1JZ was a 12.5@111mph with a 1.8 60 foot.

If I can somehow get a good launch in the 2JZ with the Kumho's maybe a 1.8 or 1.9 if all goes well I reckon I can get the time down to 12.3 or even 12.2. I will be happy with that in street trim on stock turbos.
