Hi y'all...
Since the last big cruise that we went on around Kiama and Kangaroo Valley was a blast, I want to have another one.. Probably in a couple of months time in order to give everyone enough notice about it and to get everyone's thoughts on it initially...
One of the only criticism's that I had about the last cruise was that it was too stop and start, and that we weren't really driving for more than 30 minute stints. So I was thinking that we do a bit more driving this time around.
I have done the route from Wisemans Ferry to Peat's Ridge (basically along the whole length of Wisemans Ferry road) a few times, and it's a pretty good length drive, so I'd like to propose that as the route for the majority of the journey.
Before the drive though, we could have a BBQ lunch thing at some location. I mean, you can't drive on an empty stomach, can you? I guess the BBQ could be on either side of the route - perhaps even up on the Central coast somewhere, that way the Sydney siders can do an old road run before lunch?

That's a nice bit of road Jarrod. How about going the other way up the F3 to Berowra then onto the Old Pacific Highway then Peats Ridge and Central Mangrove then along Wisemans Ferry Road for a late lunch at the pub at Wisemans Ferry? People can then make their own way home along Old Northern Road through Glenorie etc after they've had their fill and swapped a few stories?
It's a long drive - good couple of hours before getting to Wisemans Ferry but as you say Jarrod, not much stopping and starting and it's pretty much impossible to get lost or left behind.

How does October 22 sound? Or is that bad?
The rough timeline that I was thinking of is as follows: 10:00 - Sydney Siders meet at Thornleigh Maccas (Tonnes of parking, low speed bumps the last time I went there). I hand out handy maps (... how handy!) 10:30 - Start heading up towards Gosford via M1 up as far as the Berowra turnoff. ~11:00 - Wait at the disused toll gates on the old Pacific Highway so that anyone who got caught in traffic can catch up. Once a headcount has been taken, we start on the old road north. ~12:00 - Get to an as yet undecided reserve/park/oval/recreation facility/esplanade/forest/garden/playgro und/plaza (requisite: must have a BBQ and lots of parking - I have a couple of locations in mind, but will probably have to go on a drive to scope these locations). Have a BBQ, share stories, look at the cars, etc. ~2:30 - Start making tracks for Wisemans Ferry. Go back toward the freeway, head north along the freeway to the Peats Ridge Interchange. Stop again to let everyone catch up. ~3:00 - Start doing the length of Wisemans Ferry Road. ~3:45 - Should get to Wisemans Ferry ~4:15 - Everyone should be across the river by this time. Start final leg of journey towards Windsor ~5:00 - Break-up point.
I'll attach a route map in a tick. Does anyone have anything to add or suggest?

The Stupid-cheap Bathurst 1000 is on October 6-9. And IIRC, the Wisemans Ferry is a tall ferry, and cars would most likely scrape less going over it at low tide. Then again, I've been over it about 8 times on various SilviaNSW cruises and there generally hasn't been too many problems with the ferry.

High tide at Wisemans Ferry should be at ~11:42. Low tide should be ~18:35. That puts our crossing right in the middle of high and low tides, assuming it's on at October 22.
