One thing they CAN do is the following: If you are a foreigner and live and work in Denmark and you drive your own foreign registered car for more than a couple of weeks they can fine you 10% of the Danish purchase price and demand that you pay the registration tax (180% of the import cost + 25% GST). That can be quite a hefty bill. The same thing applies to Danish people driving a foreign registered car in the country, except if they live abroad and are home on holiday.
