I'd like to see a thread on here that mentions experiences people have had with others on this site insofar as their dealings with them. Sort of like the one created for the motor mechanics.
It might make some people more accountable.

I've thought about this also and I'm not sure it's such a good idea. I think you will end up causing more problems than you prevent as this will tend to start lots of flaming and detract from the benefits of 'warning' people about bad trades. I've only ever had one hiccup on here (took over a month to solve, which was the real problem) and 10+ excellent trades which have certainly saved me +$1000 so far this year. If you get to know any of the mods personally or have had dealings with them in the past a quite email to them probably wouldn't hurt if you tink someone is going the wrong thing, but I wouldn't expect them to do that much as it really isn't their job/role. You have to remember also that due to the size of the community and peoples love of their car(s) many people on here are friends in the real world also.

A centralised praise/shame post for bad traders and/or products (especially on eBay) could possibly be useful but this is currently covered informally in numerous threads and all you have to do is search. There certainly is a number of comments about panel and paint shops in Melbourne also.

I think the eBay name and shame sounds like a good idea, but a members gripes section sounds like you're opening a can of worms.

There is an option to vote for a post, so maybe you can do that in the For Sale section to show your approval of a deal that's gone through smoothly.

Been running one on supraforums.com.au since the day I started the site - with clearly defined rules regarding what one can and can not say, it is a very useful tool.

I do think some limitation on who is able to post is a good idea. Preventing people with under 100 posts to their name would be a good idea, as is having a queue for mods to authorise posts in there before they appear.

It was never my intention to deride or 'flame' or whatever, but simply to state whether you felt you got a good deal, in good time and hassle free. No need to bag anyone, just state the data without adding emotive issues.
Also, I think it's important to say when you have had really good dealings with someone. It simply gives the next person confidence.

how about we post up all the good deals and the ones with the most will be the best. System ain't foolproof but at least it doesn't 'flaming' others

Not going to happen, too many opportunities for things to go wrong as well as for unwarranted promotion.

Peter, 'unwarranted promotion' if you were referring to specific members promoting others or themselves, what Aaron said about it being limited to members with over a few hundred posts, that way someone wont just create a dummy account to give themselves a good rep and end up ripping people off.

Seriously this measuring people by the number of posts is flawed.

If I posted a "welcome" to every new member and a follow up post or two, and then a lot of "wot he said" or similar, and then "nice price" or "good buy" for all the posts in the for sale section I'd be a 'guru' three times over. I am no better informed than I currently am now, but I am somehow more worthy to judge some ones credibility?

Couldn't agree more, another forum i participate in infact removed the post count due to this very problem. Sure there are some guys with massive posts and in reality the majority of them are what makes this forum work. But i try not to post crap, and if its not nececcery i wont say it. yet i still come on here 3 or 4 times a day and read through all the new posts.

But Maurice is right, we cant have people making dummy accounts, so maybe 50 posts and been regesterd for 2 months is a fair criteria for an "established member"

So, as I said, it isn't going to happen.

If a private sale goes well - as it should, then all is good.

If a private sale goes bad, then first recourse should be to handle the issue privately, but be objective and not emotional.

If that fails, then sure, mention it on the forum, but again, be objective and not emotional.

Be prepared however for the other party to also post their version of events, which may or not be what you want to see.

There is no way that I can be a judge of any deals done because of contact from using SC.

However publication of bad deals may help the problem buyer/seller to see the light, and warn others of needing caution when dealing with that person.

Be very aware though, that anything that could be considered as anything other than the simple facts, could see your posts deleted and in extreme cases, your account suspended.

Another reason that there is no need for a "good" register, is that if people are selling enough stuff to warrant a listing, they should be a recognised trader on the forum, or they are a backyard trader.

The official Traders on the forum have established track records for trying to do the right thing.

I don't think you are meant to take it seriously. At most you can use it to determine how long someone has been around for. Generally someone who has been contributing for a year or two and has a high post count will have read quite a bit of posts, not made a fool of themselves too often, and probably be a reliable source of information, or at least know who to ask.

Then of course, there is me who just keeps coming back anyway

Naming names is not the go and that's the point.
