The C5 has an LS1 v8 just like the one sold in our Commodore's. It will do about 13.8 on a quarter mile run. However it is tuned to be quite docile below 3000rpm. This makes it quite easy to drive around town, no surprises.

They make 250kw at the engine. Yeah I quite like the look of them. The C6 is a little thinner, but has the LS2 engine. My father in-law really wanted the Z06 but did not want to wait 6 months to get one.

Hahaha yeah maybe a bit of mid life crisis. He is in his mid 50's. He has had a scale replica of the C5 for about 5 years, so its been a dream of his to get it for some time now. He also use to own a 911 turbo, supra TT, Rx7, 300zx and an older 80's Vett. So he is a bit of a car fanatic.

So the logic is that if you can not afford it young because you are poor, then you are a dickhead for buying it after you are sufficiently rich?
It is quaint the way we always believe that wealth is wasted on others.
Couldn't have said it better myself - so true. If it takes me til I'm 50 to afford the car of my dreams, I give no fark for what anyone else thinks - I'll get it and love it and laugh when other people express their envy via derogatory comments like that!
Don Bagnall Moderator New Zealand I have WAY less Soarers than Hayden :-(

I just think old guys driving ostentatious looking sports cars are a bit sad. Aston Martins, Jaguars, Mercs, Soarers, all those tasteful looking, classy high performance cars are different, and ageless, but Porche, Corvette, Ferrari - they definitely have an age limit to them, probably around 40 I think. Even saw a guy in his late 60's driving a red 350Z the other day, complete with driving gloves - he just looked silly IMO.

Yeah Matt, seriously, enjoying cars is a personal thing. Its really not appropriate to make fun of someone for enjoying their car.
IF they are being obnoxious and saying "OH IM FULLI SYK IN MY TURBO INTEGRA DAWG AND SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU!" then they a) Clearly dont know what they are talking 'bout and b) Are douches.

Nah, its about being age appropriate - a nice suit, anyone can wear that, but you ever see an old man wearing boardies and a singlet?
I think lots of things are age appropriate and not age appropriate. And no, it has noting to do with jealousy - one of the directors of my company is in his 50's, drives a 2002 AMG 55 coupe, and looks fine doing so - I hope to god I have half the class he does at his age, and if I'm lucky I'll be able to drive something as nice.
But like I said, if I get to 50, buy a bright red convertable, and start dating women half my age, shoot me, shoot me please!

Dating women half your age is a red herring you introduced, Matt. You would look even less intelligent doing it in your 20s so we will be quite happy to shoot you at any age . However, I saw no indication that Grant's father-in-law was planning to run off with younger women. On the contrary, Grant made it clear that the car is next in a string of similar vehicles evidently to his taste.
Still, I suppose if someone has used driving gloves all his life he should now doff them as age-inappropriate, grow a decent paunch and pull some hair out so he can do a comb-over. After all, one would not want older people to be seen as different from one another.
