Well, Just curious after looking through various filter types over the years, Its obvious the more expensive and high quality filters work the best... Ie the Apexi Power Intake filter for example...
Now, A guy I know, Not too car knowledgeable decided to purchase a wildcat brand pod filter for his Hoonda as recommended by his mechanic which told him they are better than general K&N filters... I told him many times to stick with leading brands particularly K&N and Apexi...
So any Ideas about this Im sure these Wildcat ones are cheap rubbish that let horrible amounts of dirt into the engines effecting their life... Ive never hear much about them being any good so anyone here know?

Mike, Wildcat were a brand of a company called Griffiths Equipment, in Auckland.
They were still going when we left Auckland in 94, but they used to stock generic brands of after-market parts, which were ok for the HQ Holden set, if you get my drift.
They MAY have changed completely in the last 12 years, or.............not.
I agree with your advice...........stick to brands of KNOWN provenance.
Dan McColl Goo Roo Victoria Active V8 and a Factory Manual XF.

Yeah, I did read something regarding the background of the Griffin company while doing a quick search, Thanks for the extra info too! But I agree, Most Known brands are the way to go...

That they're not sold in a shop local to the tester???
Well either, they are so cheap they left them off the list and didnt test them......... but most likely due to lack of shops selling them. The second does sound the most realistic so I would agree with you on that.

There is a test of numerous pod filters in a recent auto salon mag. Some of your name brands didn't perform as well as there cost might indicate. I can put up the results of the test if there is interest?

Trust (?) Airynx took out a Zoom magazine test on a about 9 or ten filters.
The quality of filtration however......is pretty much unknown I guess.
I take it this thread is mostly about the quality of filtration, as the performance of any filter is paramount to its location, length, and the temperature of the air available to its intake surface material.
Outside effects though can include the tract surface (wether it hits any pipe edges, is it corrugated, slightly rough etc), the material of the tract, proximity of teh tract ion inlet manifold to heat, and most importantly IMO is the......
SHAPE OF THE ORIFICE!!
But seriously, the difference between a bellmouth and a straight cut is very measurable.

Used to have a set of K&N filters on one of my Triumphs. They worked well provided I cleaned and oiled them regularly (pretty much monthly in Auckland conditions), which was a pain in the arse. I wouldn't go back to something so high maintenance now.
