How can you say Religion is for weak people Jan.
When the majority of people who are religious didnt really have a choice to begin with, there parents would have started them off at a very young age. So to some extent they did not have a choice untill they are much older, But then its probally abit late to say "oh i dont believe in this religion anymore because it makes me weak"
I myself am not a religious person but i believe in God. Weird maybe? but thats just me.
I do agree with you Jan on how the translation would have been changed etc. But i dont agree when you say religions are for weak people. |

In regards to the Bible, where does it explicitly say that homosexuality is a sin? The only place I can think of off the top of my head is in Leviticus. Doesn't he also say that we shouldn't cut the hair of our temples or shave our beards? Or even wear clothes of more than one fibre?
I'm not being facetious, I have a genuine curiosity. |

Well, shaving your beard is more common, although I think in sects of at least three different religions it is more common to be a poof, on the grounds that no-one at all shaves their beard.

I really don't think so. Just like how my devout Christian friends are against gays but eat pork. It's forbidden in the same book.
I guess the point I am getting at is that I don't believe the argument from a Biblical perspective that homosexuality is wrong. If they are progressive in one area, why not another?
In regards to nature/evolution, you are right, it doesn't serve a purpose in a reproductive capacity, nor really any adaptive purpose. However, you cannot argue that some people just "know" from day 1 that they are gay, as someone else has mentioned here previously.
Just as no genetic basis has been noted for homosexuality, no evidence for it being a mental disease is available either.
Thus, you cannot proclaim that it is not biological in basis, because there is no proof otherwise. Should you choose to cite that it's just because none has yet been discovered, I shall point you in the direction of those that believe in God.
My personal opinion after my physiology degree is that it is due to hormonal imbalance. Yes, this means they aren't "normal" like the rest of us. This is the same attitude that we saw 100 years ago towards blacks, who were not normal either.
I suppose it is hard to accept that culture is progressing away from what we are comfortable with, however I think that is necessary.
I will say that I also have a strong personal dislike for those really flaming homosexuals, they drive me nuts. However, not really any more than Christians that tell me I'm going to hell, or overweight people that cram down McDonalds and complain about their weight. |

It's not about tolerance or lack of it. As a matter of fact I don't care if someone is a poof. My original arguments was that being one is not normal. I tolerate them, I don't discriminate at all, and I'm not a homophobic person, but what I will not accept is someone telling me that it's perfectly natural and normal thing to do, for a guy to bang another guy!!!

I only express my opinion, I think I'm old enough be able to have one of my own, without help from other people.
The rest of you can believe in what ever you want. But don't try to push me into it. |

Leviticus 18:22 states "You shall not lay with a male as one lies with a female ... it is an abomination"
Leviticus 20:13 states "If any one lie with a man as with a woman, both have committed an abomination, let them be put to death: their blood be upon them."
I think that's about as blatant as it gets. There's a lot of bickering about why sodom and gomorrah were destroyed... but that's a different story. |

i find it interesting that a huge percentage of gay men were interfered with as boys. The massive psychological damage caused by this seems to suggest a' cause and effect'. understanding that many gays wouyldn't be gay if they hadn't been sexually abused has helped me become much more tolerant and understanding. However,i am aware of a section of the gay community that choose to be gay, simply because they are really lustful and the gay scene satisfies the "( free) frequent casual sex with no commitment" desire.this is totally selfish and disgusts me.
the suicide rate is really high among gays also. I don't believe this is because they get teased.it seems that even though they put on a show,their lifestyle is not rewarding.many are deeply unhappy. I feel quite sad for them.
these are just my opinions and observations. |
