It looks like in the very very near future the Commodore and the Ute will be sold under the Pontiac brand. Yay!

Yeah well, hopefully someone imports the front bumper and hood, the Pontiac unit looks disgusting.

Since the Fbodys dissapeared, Camaro and Trans am, america had nothing exciting to offer.

We have the GTO (monaro), but the bland bumpers Pontiac installed really killed sales. They finally upgaded the looks in 2006 and it's starting to get more popular.

Aren't the local unions gonna get pissed off about it?? There was a thing with the Monaro, they could only export a limited number to US because of the union's strong influence. I presume same thing will be for Commodore...

Moral of the story, Australians can't build good cars - but Americans REALLY can't build good cars.

Yeah OK.. some American cars:

Chrysler 300C. Won Car and Driver's best Full Size Sedan 3 years in a row.

Cadillac CTS - 300hp in the next one.

Ford Mustang - you can buy it for the equivalent of 28k Aussie with a V8. Not to mention the Shelby and Saleen cars.

Dodge Charger and Challenger.

Chevrolet Corvette - Car and Driver's best Performance Car 6 years in a row (and 6 more times in the past).

A range of all sorts of other cars we don't see.. Lincolns, Mercurys, Cadillacs, Pontiacs, Buicks, Hummers, Saturns. Sedans, compacts, convertibles, 4WDs, trucks, you name it.

And what do we have? 2 taxis that get crap crammed in them and plastered onto them and called sports cars. And they cost 50 to 70 grand for that.

Now check out Commodore's safety recall history. Power steering, doors, tyres, brakes, wheels, the VE has already been recalled for seat belts and fuel leaks. THE BLOODY ONE BRIGHT BRAKE LIGHT THAT THEY WERE PLAGUED WITH FOR OVER A DECADE.

Don't get me started on the Ford Capri.

Even though I really don't like the commonwhores that are coming out these days, I read about a tt bolt on kit for the LS1's (read here :
http://www.ls1turbo.com.au/ )that can produce some amazing figures (well, they are from the company that makes them) for a fairly reasonable price (around 12k plus labour for 550 rwkw). Now if only it was cheap to put an LS1 in a soarer......

But what's the point when it's just wedged in a taxi? Or is it a family sedan? Or a station wagon? No hang on it's a coupe. No a limo.

Free trade + America is an unbalanced equation, unless you are American and an exporter - actually, even then as you're probably being subsidised.

Wow how many grills do Pontiac want on that thing?

Its always interesting when you go on American based forums with some Aussie members (some with utes). The yanks' jaw-drop over the utes!

...not that thats a bad thing! ;)
