Well, late January, I was told by the State Debt Recovery Office that they where going to cancel my rego due to an unpaid fine (which to my horror and suprise was on a time to pay plan).

I rang them, and emailed them, telling them I was mistified at how I failed to pay this fine, as it was on a payment plan, and they must have stuffed something up.

Anyway, both on the phone and via email, I received the confirmation that my rego WOULD NOT be cancelled, and a massive appology in regards to the error that had occured.

At this point I was happy, my rego was fine, I could do my work, drive my car, and still be able to pay them.

Today I get a letter in the mail telling my my rego IS cancelled, so I rang the RTA to confirm (only got the letter today, but rego was cancelled last Thursday, and I was driving around the countryside friday and Saturday).

Anyway, after speaking to an idiot at the SDRO, she checked with her supervisor, and told me to confirm with the RTA at 4:30pm, as the rego should be re-instated.

4:30 comes around, I check, and I am told by RTA it's not, and that it should only take minutes if the SDRO has done the right thing.

So now stuck on hold waiting for these clowns again.

This is 3 times I have been told my registration will be fine, and 3 times it is not re-instated, at this point I am cancelling all payments to SDRO until further notice, then once they realise I am not p1ss and wind, they might actually do their jobs and re-instate my registration.

Some government agencies couldn't organise a dildo in a sex shop I tell you.

Cancelling your payments will convince them they were right to cancel your rego and cause you continuing problems. Go up the food chain of their department, or to your local member.

You have a case for outrage on the basis that you were unwittingly driving without rego, and could have faced legal difficulties in the event of an accident, owing to an error by the department rather than any fault of your own.

Id call it negligence because somebody is not doing their job, thats no error. Someone's sipping coffee and flirting with the person in the opposite cubical instead of reinstating registrations.
That someone needs to find another job and be charged in the event that something serious happens to public property and the OP is not covered.

You know Brian, you really are being unreasonable here!!! How can you be asking public servants to actually do their job properly, you should be ashamed of yourself! Let them eat their tim tams, drink their coffees, and live in peace, rather than causing a stir that will make them get off their backsides and do actual work they get paid to do. Have some compassion towards them please

I ripped it at them last night right on 5pm, telling them if I didn't get a call from RTA confirming that my rego was reinstated, I was refusing to pay again, would go to Today Tonight, A Current Affair, and use their money to advertise their stupidity in all the local papers.

Surfice to say, I got a call 5 minutes to 5pm, from someone 'claiming to be the RTA' telling me rego was reinstated.

I asked them to confirm my licence number, car rego, and other details, and they got them right, then I asked them to confirm my licence card number (a different and unique number on a NSW licence) and they got this right as well.

I thanked them, and rang the RTA myself and they have infact re-instated my rego.

I succeeded this round, and I will continue to pay the SDRO for the parking infringements I have collected, but I told them if they pull a stunt like this again, I will not even bother to follow up on their incometence, I will just pass the issue to my legal advisors and let them deal with it (again, using SDRO's money to pay for the privelidge).

SDRO bought the fine payments from the government, therefore if someone eventually refuses to pay, it costs them heaps.
