Operating System on your ps3 (run linux off your ps3!).
That'll be great for online gaming, cheaters/hackers will ruin the whole experience.

Yea I know Ben, Nintendo achieved exactly what they were after with the Wii
Nintendo nearly lie as much as Sony do. They were saying that the GameCube was going to be different from the N64, it was going to have a tonne of games and a huge 3rd party support... It never happened Then they announced the Wii saying huge array of 'fun' games with massive 3rd party support and low and behold I hear "Good system, they're just too slow on releasing games"

As I grew up on original GL quake then spend months playing TF and later CS. Controlling those games was always via k/b and mouse. This is the only reason why I cant really get into the consoles.
If the was a k/b-mouse set up for xbox360 I would buy it yesterday.

As soon as the PS3 drops to less than what i paid retail for my x360 im getting one, only because of the Home and LittleBigPlanet titles. The other titles can diaf.
As soon as new Grand Turismo comes out, I'm getting PS3
I've only played Sonic and Project Gotham on 360, I was impressed with the graphics. I loved the shading and the sun, and reflections off the cars in the game, looked quite realistic.

New format becomes fastest-selling home console ever over its debut weekend.
The figure is three quarters of the total 220,000 UK launch stock for day one, and makes PS3 second only to PSP in the overall launch weekend sales stakes. The Sony handheld shifted 185,000 during its opening weekend back in September 2005.
PS3’s record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.
The figure also means that Sony has not sold all of its opening weekend stock, something the platform holder claims is part of its overall strategy at retail.

Lol... Big deal. Both systems are graphically just as good as each other.... but the xbox 360 has been out for over a year now. With all the time Sony spent being able to make demand they could of made people wait and concentrated on a system to put the 360 to shame.... but they didn't

How about you post up some information relevant to Australians?
Sony Australia has announced that more than 20,000 PlayStation 3 units have been sold in the territory since the console launched there on Friday.
According to TheAge.com, Sony also said that combined sales of hardware, software and accessories generated over AUD 25 million (GBP 10.3 million / EUR 15.2 million / USD 20.2 million) in retail spending.
The PS3 retails in Australia with an RRP of AUD 999.95. With 20,000 consoles sold, that would mean AUD 5 million has been spent on software and accessories. First-party games are priced at AUD 99.95.
Xbox 360 launched in the region exactly one year before PS3, on March 23 2006. According to market analyst GfK, 30,421 units were sold in the first four days following launch - making it the fastest-selling console then released. A further 700,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold by the end of October.
The Nintendo Wii launched in Australia on December 7 last year. It broke the record set by Microsoft's machine, according to GfK, which reported that 32,901 Wii consoles were sold in the first four days.
So, X360 sold more units than the PS3 in the period when it launched? Good Job Sony.

worldwide sales are still relevant to australians as they are part of the world maurice
and how many of xbox 360s sold were consumers 2nd or 3rd console
i wonder if the new "elite" 360 thats going to be released will be any better... at least theyre admitting they made a mistake the first time the console was launched
but thats enough of that, im sick of reading ps3 threads on every forum, as it turns into a 360 "me too" thread
play time
oh, you should go play your 360 maurice
oh wait...

At the end of the day, I'm not going to fork out $1k for a unit that at this point in time only has 8 games or so available for it (considering I can play all my old PS2 games on my PS2 anyways).
This is where I think Sony has shot themselves in the foot...$1k is a price that only hard-core gamers are going to be prepared to pay. Or, people who are setting up their houses for the first time or something. When I eventually move out, THEN the PS3 would become a more viable option, as it also replaces a DVD player etc.
But to someone who fires up the PS2 maybe once a week for a couple of hours of Burnout 3, GT4 or V8 Supercars, and the occasional game of Black or something, I'm not going to be willing to pay any more than $500 for a console.
I'd probably fork out a grand right now if I wanted to impress my geek friends that I was the first one among them that has it... but I don't have any any geek friends

I'm sure not going to buy anything until its clear which format will dominate, Blue-ray or HD-DVD. I don't want to have to have both a console and a movie player in my setup.

Im a Sony fan but like movies too and agree with what Matthew Sharpe said. Would be a smart move to see what dominates weather it be Blu Ray or HD-DVD.
