hey guys. just after your opinions. I would like to get a more practicle car. I would also like to stick with toyota. the reason is that i have 2 kids, so the back seats dont have to be huge, but the boot does! Im getting my wife a hiace super custom, and she loves them, so that is the family car. Here are my choices: Chaser: Pro's, basically a 4 door soarer, good performance, looks, rare, good features and reasonable economy. Cons, small boot (like the soarer), expensive and hard to get a manual. Aristo: Pro's, 4 door with 2jz, rare and realy good features Cons, small boot (fuel tank again) auto only, looks like an avalon and economy probably isn't the best. JZA70 supra: Pro's,cheap, good performance, looks good, removable hardtop, similar economy to soarer, good features and a nice big, deep hatch back boot. Cons: 2 door, looks like a normal aussie one, older 1jz is laggy. JZA80 supra. Pro's: what can i say, its been my dream car since need for speed 1! Cons:Hatch area is pointless, 2 door, expensive but it looks hotttttt!!!!!
My last option is to buy an aussie cressida, put a vvti 1JZ manual in, and enjoy the big boot. I used to own one, and it was a realy good car, just needed more horses. It'll tow too. Also a manual 2JZ would be better for the added torque, and the extra ratio gearbox. I can do the engine swap legaly and buy the cressida grande (its got an lsd) for the sale price of my soarer, so cost is not an issue. The only big negative would be the resale value. What do you think?

Hmm, not realy performance based. They look good, have great features, but don't go much harder than a v6 holden. probably don't handle that good either. Great car, no doubt about that, just not what i'm after. I think the tank is in the boot as well?

Thanks guys. Shaun, the missus wants a van, so i'll get the beast. You're right about the cops too. Should surprise a few HSV boys too. Heck, i'll surprise the supra boys! Braden, did you do the conversion yourself? Auto or manual? Would the 2jz be much harder, considering i'd get the manual? Did the front cut brakes fit?

My conversion was done by the previous owner, this is your cheapest option if you don't mind buying one already done. I think i2obert on toyotacressida.net is selling his for $5000. Usual going rate is closer to 10 or so depending on mods, condition etc. I've surprised a few 297kw clubbies, and plenty of other cars. There's always someone quicker though.
Mine is auto, so quicker down the 1/4. 12.67 on standard turbos so far, I think I'll squeeze a little bit more out of it ;) Manual would be a lot more fun though. My flatmate has a manual 1JZ Cressida with a GT35R turbo on it, around 300kW at the wheels, so if you want something pretty fun then you can buy that for 12k.
2JZ is not too much harder, you have to replace the brake booster with a different one otherwise the rear turbo gets in the way. Chat to Southo/ProjectSleeper about that as he pioneered it I think.
Front cut brakes off a JZX81 cut fit perfectly, however I followed the popular route of putting R33 Skyline GTS-T 4-pot calipers on, with BA Falcon slotted rotors. Bolts on like factory, you just need some rings to centre the discs onto the wheel hub.
