The Family and I packed up and went to the BIMF for easter again this year. The festival was a large improvement over last year with plenty of on track excitement. The off track side of things needs some work but it was a good weekend none the less.
New this year was the return of the Bathurst production car 12 hour race. I thought this would drag on a bit but watching a diesel powered astra, mini cooper, ford typhoon and XR6/8's, SS commodore, celica's, hondas, WRX's, evo's and more battle it out on track all day was strangely entertaining. The best bit was they are essentially dead stock (ths HMS cars had all the aircon, stereo etc still working) less the safety modifications.

The astra was driven by a team of women led by Leanne Tander. The car was strong as an ox for at least the first 6 hours...Oh I just read you vehicle description...and blew a turbo or something around the 8-9 hour mark.
The car was not as fast as some over a whole lap but the torque up the mountain was every bit as good as the rest of the comparable cars (and some that should not be mentioned in the same sentence!) The time limit for a stint was 3 hours. They were filling it up with each driver change as they had to stop anyway. The WRX's by contrast were filling up every hour because they had too.
Adam it will be televised on TV within two weeks so probably the weekend of the 21st on 9. There were no Bugatti Veyrons racing so god knows why you'd want to see it. Didn't quite scrape under the $125,000 price ceiling.
