Well, I just took the manual sports model out for a spin today and have come to this conclusion... i like, very nice, wa wa we wa, sexy time!

As expected it was a tad slow as it only has 153kw at the fly, but after 4500rpm it really pulls ok (as was evident by me doing 140 through the hills, and the sales bloke loved it!) Now it makes me want a 6 speed soarer :-)

Oh, and with the magical gizmos that thing has in the way of parking sensors and plane projectors (all displayed on a 8" screen), even a woman could park it (***runs and hides***).

Still, if anyone ever wants an upgrade to their current ride, hold off another year or so as the IS-F is due for release in late '08. Picture a IS250, with factory wide body kit, 19" BBS rims, an alloy block quad cam 5L V8, AND a 8 speed paddle shifter box

You may drool here...

Yeah I've been looking at this car lately, and I love it. The US has a IS350 model as well with a 3.5L engine which is quite respectable, I've read somewhere it might be coming here as well, hope it does soon.

Looking forward, I will probably have the Soarer for another year and a half and get the new IS packaged through work. And value for money wise, it beats the 3 series Beemer and the C class Merc in terms of pretty much everything. IS-F would be just awesome though!

Either that, or the dorky looking 130i Beemer (aka. M1)

I am serious! A mate of mine has had one for 6 months (he needed a bigger car for second baby so bought an E class) it is the 1 series hatchback RWD beemer, with the 3L 6 cyl high performance engine, obviously lower tune than the M3, however the power to weight ratio makes it just as good performance wise. They never called it an M1, but unofficially this version is know as M1. It's a poor man's M3, put it this way. For $70K you get a beemer with M3 performance. Back when my car was stock, it absolutely slaughtered my soarer off the lights, and still managed to gain a lot on me on roll ons too. Here's one:

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/dealer/BMW/130i/details.aspx?Model=130i&__Nne=20&__N=4294967079 +0+4294954619++834+285+258+287&Make=BMW&RegionID=&State=All%20States&silo=1000&state_id=0&distance=2 5&Cr=0&seot=0&__sid=1110D762B2A0&R=967739&__Ns=pCar_StatusSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|0&Region=All%20Regions&trecs=19

Google it for any reviews etc, that's one hatchback that will give your Soarer a run for its money

It's not the M3 engine. It's the 330I engine. The old M3 engine was a 3.2l.

It is also overprices by at least $10,000.
If you want something that drives well, looks good and has a lot of room, buy a VW R32.
Or if you really want a BMW (can't understand why), then buy a used M3.

My IS200 went in for a 40km service (groan, nearly $1k) and they gave me an auto IS250...it was the duck's guts.... I didn't fang it with a salesman in the death seat, but I did give it a bit of curry, and I think they are on a winner....I want to see the IS350 here..

Yeah they did that to me as well, except I had it for a couple of days. Did they also ask you if you wanna buy it when you gave the car back? Very sneaky :-)

Well, the salesman who sold me the IS200 is a good operator. It was '03 loaner, with 36K on the clock, and drove very sweetly. I got it for $27K on the road, which was about $8K below the typical asking price.....he phones me fairly regularly (8 week intervals) to ask if I'm happy with it...Canberra Lexus are not pressure salesmen, they let the cars do the work

Yeah I had no pressure either when I bought mine. One of the guys there told me that Lexus in general has many repeat customers, so they are not hard to sell. Not surprised at all. The IS300 I bought in particular was only on their lot for one day, with the "Not yet ready for sale" sticker on it, when I came across it. Till the time I collected it they had a dozen enquiries about it. Their after sales service is tops too! They've replaced my faulty stereo deck and fixed a faulty heated seat out of warranty, for free, and come service time, attend to the smallest things that may annoy me, like I had a bit of a minor rattle when one of the rear doors were closed. I wouldn't have bothered telling them that if it wasn't for their genuine questioning like "come on, think... is there anything even minor that is not working well, or shouldn't be there??" etc... basically they wanna keep them in a brand new condition. Of course whole service cost me 450 bucks, but they throw in a free IS250 rental car and my car gets a full detail so can't complain :-)
