As many of you are very interested in Dubai. So here it goes.
First which I really want to clear you all, is that Media all around the world is playing a very good and bad role over here.
Good part and Bad part Yes all that construction, massive projects and every thing will help every body and country, but still the People's standard havn't come up. People are still getting paid very less.
Last month Dubai faced a small BLOW, 02 Major Fire at construction sites, near BURJ DUBAI (Wannabe Tallest Tower) one at Palm Island Jumeirah. And a robbery of DHS 40 million Dirhams (lost my count in converting in US$) and also another robbery the next day od DHS 10 million Dirhams.
Matthew if you are a good at Diving. As soon as the Palm is ready and running by 2009. The government have put a Hidden Treasure (arounnd 40 kilos of Gold) and if you find it, its all yours. Best of Luck of you are planning to stay under water for months.
Brenton Trafford:- From your question, I think you want to settle in Dubai. Not a bad idea, good opportunities here for European's and Australians. But the only problem you will face is Human Rights. All Local nationals (UAE Nationals) are GOD's, even though they are wrong, they will be Treated as right. I hope you are getting my point. Please check the link above and may be you will get a better picture.
Yes, to live in Dubai is very expensive. For eaxmple, I used to stay in a rented room in a 02 bedroom flat. the room was so big that I could only keep a bed and a small table (to have food, or keep a laptop) and I was paying US$500 per month from my monthly income of US$1000 per month. Now I have moved with my girl friend to a villa.
If you are new and renting out a flat or villa. Yes, you have to give 01 year or 06 months rent as down payment, as well as you will also have to give 03 chaeques of the yearly rent.
or, if you are planning to buy a flat or villa, you can only buy the vila or flat not the land. Once you buy it, IT will be only yours for 99 years and if you want to do any changes to the flat or villa, you will have to give a valid reason, why you want to do it. (which they always say it is possible, but till now every body have come back Disappointed)
All I am covering above are the bad part not the worst cases. As I have mentioned above, you all have seen the good part through your media.
Now lets come to the Fun part. Dubai Has 01 racing circuit now Dubai AutoDrome www.dubaiautodrome.com and two Karting tracks one at Dubai Autodrome itself and one in Jebel Ali Free Zone (managed by Emirates Motor Sports Federation http://www.emsfuae.com/) and we have a very Huge crowd for Drag races as well http://www.motorplex.ae/.
We have AutoX or Solo2 Challenges running now. Most of guys at the AutoX are running on majority of cars like Mitsubishi EVO 6,6.5,7,8,8.5 and 9 and as well as Honda S2000 and few with civics and BMW M3's.
Last year we had only one Soarer for the AutoX and the results were very impressive.
What I am trying with my soarer is to start First Drift Club in Dubai (named as UAE Drifting Club), I have tried to manage to get some sponsor's now but realy need to build up a Street Legal Drift Monster and I am very much looking forward to finish it by Next year end.
Please do shoot me with your questions, if you have any for Dubai.
Sorry for all the spelling mistakes. The write up is too long and I dint have a good breakfast.

Yes, Ben. they are. The biggest is Spare parts imports. If looking at the Japanese Used spare parts Imports, many big players are from Afghanistan and trust me if you are looking for such business, you just need a good financial back up and you will play in millions. I knew a guy from whom I bought a Honda Civic TypeR engine (B16b) is now driving a 2008 model Bentley Continental GT.
Other imports also pay off very well, but you need to be very careful. Competition of many Asian and Chinese players. Getting into that is just Suicide.
The Japanese Spare Parts imports are good, Coz Sharjah is the biggest industrial in the Gulf (A City in UAE very near to Dubai) and its quite easy to start with a Limited Financial Back Up.
