Make a cover out of fibreglass or carbon fibre.

Dont make one out of aluminium, because metal holds heat, and stays warm longer....

I don't have the tools for that...what if I put a couple layers of foam on either side as a kind of insulation, and just used the aluminum in the middle to hold the shape?

I used aluminium with a heat proof sleeve on the inside of the heat shield. Turned out quite well, never heats up at all.
I also run two air ducts into the shield.
I will try and get some pics up shortly.

I was thinking about running a duct up too. I had one in my Chevy Prizm because the filter was near the rear of the engine compartment.

I used a dryer vent from the hardware store, but the car proceeded to break down later that very day because there was an oil leak and it ran out of oil. The check engine light came on like a mile before it broke down, and the oil light came on very briefly before that then turned back off. Sad day....

Still a little dirty Matthew, it just doesn't want to stay clean.

Hah, don't worry mine is pretty bad at the moment too - mostly because of all the spring pollen.

I finally made a heat shield when I went home last week.
I used a piece of sheet metal from the hardware store for 5 dollars, and some heat wrap tape.
It turned out really nice, but i forgot to take pictures.
I put the heat tape on the engine side, should i put some on both sides/double layer it/etc. Thanks

Here's an updated picture of mine. Quite a change from almost a year ago.
