well I had my blue girl up for sale, ran out of rego so I decided to fix the bits that probably wouldn't pass rego (oil leaks and washer nozzles) and get the steering column replaced. A mate of mine took her on and I convinced Stu that it would only cost no more than $300 plus rego....HAHAHAHAHA....famous last words huh??!! SO now we are at just over 2 grand without rego Mind you he hasn't charged me for labour, but he will get cartons! Steering column was cracked all the way around, so he welded the crack and put a metal sheaf around it...oils leaks ended up being the power steering pump and the box...so brand new ones of each. Except the pump (got from pedders) didn't fit due to being a holden pump (can't get the chev one) so the old rear part of it is attached to the new front..all good until he put i back on...being a chev it is all back to front so he took the new pump to pieces and put it back in the old housing...VOILA! Also there is a leak from the rear axle caused by the previous owner taking off the PCV, so now have a new one of those. New set of gaskets, tranny service, engine cleaned up of all the fluid that sprayed everywhere. So after all that I have decided to keep her and sell the wb ute instead. Stu just rolls his eyes, cos my logic is that his golf club fees, balls, comp fees and 19th hole fees are equal to rego, insurance and one squirt of fuel So now I have a hobby instead of a ute...does my logic make sense? haha.

Well, it reads a bit like you have been at the 19th hole, but it's all good!

Odd. Only reason I can see one being "back to front" is if you got a reverse turner from a serpentine or something? Give us a yell next time you need Chevy parts!

thanks heaps Miles, I may just take you up on that offer (hopefully wont need anything more for quite awhile!), one question....what's a serpentine and a reverse turner?

Accessories that go with a serpentine belt spin the opposite direction to those that use a v-belt. Could be though the pump had mounts that only worked on one side of the block hey.. that would be "back to front"... but then just buy a Holden pump instead of a Chevy? I dunno I'm confused.

well I was supposed to get her back Tuesday just gone, but no luck. Good news is that she passed rego and the last thing was the wheel alignment etc (had to get 2 new front tyres and and idler arm to pass rego). The guys wouldn't do it as the ute needs upper and lower bushes, ball joints and whatever else they said. So now she is back in Dave's shed with the front end pretty much in pieces. So now we are up to nearly 4 grand and I still haven't paid rego. Stu exploded the other night and he doesn't know about this latest cost. I am not looking forward to his next reaction. Let's just say I am very very unpopular right now.

yeah, I should know better by now huh! But I drove her for the first time today and man what a difference to the steering. Tracks properly, no jumping around all over the place. A little stiff though but that will loosen up over time as it is a new box and pump. Is tuned also and what a joy to start her up (although still takes a couple of pumps when cold). For those mechanical people, the shims were out 25mm and 30mm. Just as exciting is that she is a fully usable ute as the tailgate has a handle!!!! Very cool when I picked up my army trunk today, mind you it took 18 months to get sent back from Baghdad. Due to the massive hospital bill (well to me anyway) I decided to give Deni ute muster a miss this year, oh well, I couldn't wipe the smile from my dial driving her Sooooo good to feel the blop blop blop blop sensation when stopped at the lights....if you have a better word for that feeling please post it up!!!
